Welcome to my first video that’s focussing on something different from service. I will be putting up some content other than serves from time to time and I hope you enjoy this one and find it useful too.
Take a look at these steps to develop a robust and effective forehand attack. Mastering these fundamentals will allow you to progress the effectiveness of your forehand attack / forehand topspin.
What other skills would you like to see?
My bat set up is:

Hi Craig-Thanks for all your great videos! I am a keen amateur shakehand player who plays quite a lot of doubles. Many of the serve tutorials I have watched are difficult, or not suitable to use when playing doubles. I would love to see a vid that focuses on aspects of serving in doubles.

This is probably the single most useful video I've seen on the subject. Great display of progression in developing a proper stroke. Great camera angles and focus on the legs and body. Will be recommending this video to the new guys in the gym, who think the wild swings of the arm is what is going to win them matches. A point - perhaps. Never a match.

Excellent work on breaking the swing down into the parts that are the same in each swing & pointing out what changes in each swing. Thanks for the clarification. If possible, can you point out what you would do differently when receiving between a backspin ball & a topspin? Thanks again.

Great video. I'm a reasonable Over-50s club player but I really struggle to hit the ball hard on my forehand. What used to be my best shot, since the missed play during Covid, I now find next to impossible. I can hit a forehand well with plenty of top spin, I just can't drive the ball forward with any real pace. It just 'feels' un-natural to me and doesn't work. Very frustrating and I wish I could better describe it.

Tricky to advise without seeing it. Try to focus on being quick on the point of contact of the shot, not the entire length of the shot.

So where is the wrist in all this? Never heard that word mentioned at all.????
@TheTableTennisServiceGuy
@TheTableTennisServiceGuy 4 ай бұрын
Not always possible to remember everything! The grip needs to be relaxed enough so that the wrist follows through. Not necessary (in my opinion) to consciously think about moving the wrist when learning this.
@rudycramer225

Thanks. It's hard for me to stay relaxed when trying to hit the ball hard. I'll try and relax it next Monday. I'm very backhand dominant and do ok, but I figure i could double my skill level by getting a decent forehand, which I currently do not have.
@TheTableTennisServiceGuy
@TheTableTennisServiceGuy 4 ай бұрын
If you’re squeezing your bat as hard as you can, then just relax it by 20%. It doesn’t have to be super relaxed.
