The best thing about being American is that our culture IS the world's culture. just all mashed together.

It's so refreshing to see people speak of their real experiences here, rather than to see people who've never actually been here just write in the comments "I hate America", etc.

I think main thing here is the cultural difference. Our views on subjects mostly differ, but that does not stop us from being friends.

angeladq ANY government WILL have some level of corruption or another. the U.S. is at around 6-8% corruption. That's not bad at all compare to other 1st world countries. Canada has 4%, Germany have 6-8% as well. these are very low numbers, they dont even compare to places like China or Russia.

What I recommend for future International students and those who want to come for vacations to the States. They need to aim for more of the out of the way places, instead of our big cities. To really get to know the people of America. Also don't pay to much to our news networks and the problem they want to show, they blow it up the problems bigger then they really are. Most Americans are friendly and are will to help were they can. We are not perfect and have are own issues. But if you keep an open mind and willing to try new things you will have an enjoyable experience.

Since this seems to be the main subject in the comments...Transparency International publishes the Corruption Perceptions Index yearly. In 2016, the US came in at number 18 out of 176 countries, behind a bunch of Europeans and Canada and the Anzacs. The index has it's critics, but it's a place to start when talking about corruption.

This is unfair, they all stayed in Boston. Not a correct representation of the US....One thing you'd think people would stop doing is stereotyping. Just cuz a few act/behave a particular way, doesn't mean everyone in the country does. If someone visited their countries and stated their views of the few people they came across acted all the same, it'd upset them

disagree with muhammed boukhari.. it is not necessary everything is happening to us is explained.. people who call U.S as a free I would to hear the ""free"" defination from them.. I mean is ruining the modesty should be stated as ""freedom"" .. is cursing in the middle of street among mothers,kids etc... would be also called as ""freedom"" honestly this type of moral violations in U.S should be treated and ebforced by strict law not bt accepting it and let it happen!
@laurenqueenofwolvesnicole8 жыл бұрын
Horse shit. It's not *anyone's* place to decide what is *morally* acceptable or unacceptable for other people. We deserve to deside what *our own* morals will be, and we deserve the right to live by the morals *we* choose for ourselves. *That is* freedom. The second we start trying to force others to behave in accordance with someone else's idea of morality? Is the second we officially have a God Complex, and need to chill the fuck out. Cursing in the street doesn't physically hurt anyone. Children cussing doesn't physically hurt anyone. (It's viewed as distasteful sure, but that's exactly what I'm talking about.) Just because an individual person finds something distasteful? It doesn't matter. We have the right to each follow our *own* moral code, and that's the only right we deserve. Our individual morals and behavior, are not for other people to choose for us/try to control. That right belongs only to the individual. *That, is true freedom.*
