I seen Steve play many times in Ireland. Absolutely fantastic every time. He even recorded a video for my father's 70th birthday during the lockdown. Great artist and a really nice guy. Rest in peace

I took a three day workshop with Steve in the late 90s. I was playing a 1928 Weyman ....love it. Later I picked up a 1925 Stella. They just feel better than my newer Martins.

W. C. Fields voice:... Ahhh yess! But seriously, Mr James, you have blessed me greatly this day. I have dallied in this style blues since High School in the early '70s. There has never been finer and more reverently authentic rendition to my ears than you've given just now. I'm going to get my old '64 Gibson J45 and pick the splinters outa that thang. It just came back from the Luthier's repair shop yesterday with a 500,000 mile tune-up. My Dad taught me to play by ear and gifted me that Gibson on my 9th birthday after I successfully performed three songs of his choosing on his ca., 1948 Washburn plywood parlor guitar, which I still own. So, you know there is love there! Thanks!

Fantastic stuff! I got into Steve James' music on hearing his "Two Track Mind" album. That was a while back. He's one of the most authentic contemporary players of the depression era blues and ragtime. Just gets better and better.

Very awesome video... and by an fantastic guitar player! I recognize some of those models, especially the Stella brand by Harmony. Harmony had two U.S.A. factories if I remember right.. and made guitars here up to 1975. Sometimes they may have small issues with them (wear and tear / not maintain well) but if you can find a hald way defect looking and playing one, they are really are a great vintage guitar... also not just the "oo" parlor Stella body size, look for a few cool concert body styles out there as well.

Big Bill Broonzy & Frank Stokes did a great duo on Saturday Night Rub! By the way, I have a approx 1937 Kalamazoo that has been altered to have cross-bracing! Makes it sound more like the Gibson L-00 - so the guy who paid a luthier to do this reckoned, anyway. He said that was the only real difference between the two? Nice playing as well, thanks. Will look out for your book.

as much as i love the old delta piedmont and country blues...i must confess tho that some of those old axes sound trebly ...now i know thats the charm people love....i still prefer a modern build and overtones of a bigger box....but yer a great player...im just sharing a personal preference....i liked the kay a little better ... but absolutely great playing steve

Very enjoyable. Steve has a great personality. At the end of the day I prefer the warmer sound of an OM with rosewood and X bracing. You are missing the point one might say. That's ok. Besides, the dead delta boys only had twang because they used the cheapest crappiest guitar they could find. :-)
