Just amazing to hear his voice again. To all the people knocking this album claiming that it is too depressing and too mellow, know that he recorded this album for his girlfriend based on a promise he made to her before she passed away so of course the theme is love lost and the tracks have an abundance of sorrowful overtones. Listen up, There are enough rockers out there if you want to get rocked go elsewhere, but if you want meaningful words and raw heartfelt emotions that will rock your soul deep down to the core then you came to the right place. Congrats Steve, thanks for sharing your heart with us.

I just want to say Steve Perry's contribution to "Journey" as the lead singer, still moves me every time I hear those songs! To me he was "Journey"! I'm so glad he has found music again! Just haunting. There will be those who think this work is somewhat self-serving and thin with his lost love as a dominating theme, but joy and hope is often spotty in life and this is what he needed to express from his heart and soul to return to music as his language and to move beyond the difficulties he endured. I believe his (hopefully) future releases will regain the uplifting spirit which he once enjoyed and shared through music! It's absolutely unbelievable that at 69 years old, three decades removed from the music scene, this man can come back to us with his heart on his sleeve and deliver such an incredible musical work. I certainly hope that younger folks will latch onto something from this album and discover what they've been missing. Simply, "the Voice".

It stops you...takes you back to a youth spent on summer nights cruising in your car without the cares of the world, the taste of a lip gloss kiss, the smell of soft perfume. If your not careful it sends you there without a clear way back. A path well worn in my mind, but a place where this music fits just as easily as it does in this place...Thank you, Steve...for the Journey.

This album is epic. Definitely deserves a grammy. So much of these lyrics apply to me on a deep personal level. Thank goodness I went to a dorm party in Cincinnati in 1980 and discovered Steve Perry's music when someone put on "Infinity." I've been a devout fan eversince.

Music matters again. There's the obvious familiarity of Steve's voice from 20+ years ago, yet he's taken things to a completely different level. This is my third full listening to Traces and although I do have a couple of favorites, I haven't found one where I can say "I truly don't like it". The lyrics are great, the harmonies are wonderful, the musicianship is top notch.

Though my first minutes of hearing these songs brought on a melancholy feeling of what's been lost and missed over 30 years, each time I listen to a song it crawls further under my skin and awakens the sense that your instrument has evolved like the rings of a massive Oak tree now displaying the layers of your musical career and life. The undeniable magic of your vocal soul, skills and uniquely recognizable harmony arrangements remain in tact and slowly lure me into listening to your latest lyrics and songs from the inside out, from a depth of "being in the moment" that no one else has ever matched (though Eva absorbs me in a similar way). And thanks to the band for providing the "real" music with the appropriate instruments, tones and "feeling" needed and deserved for these tracks! I will always cherish the golden clarity and tremendous instrumental range of your vocals (I first mistook for a female vocalist!) from the college small venue bootleg tape I have of first months with Journey to the end of the band's reign (best era, Captured Live line up, Greg's massive Hammond B3 technique and synth work meshing with Neil's melodic melodies, chord structure, underlying rhythmic "riffs" and sound to create the ultimate live (and studio) wall of sound sweeping over the wonderful Ross traveling bass lines and intricate rhythms of Steve Smith. I will now hold this album close to my musical heart and embrace the "new" Steve Perry and all of his layers... I do have to say it would be total musical magic to have just one more collaboration of Journey and "the Voice" bless our ears and the world's music history. C'mon, guys... one or two songs? It wouldn't be hard. I guarantee if any 2 or 3 of you step in a studio together for more than 60 minutes, the song(s) would magically appear and the recording performances would flow hauntingly from your forever intertwined souls!

This new material is so deep and soulful. Thanks Steve for sharing your heart with this amazing album!! We are living in such an ugly time..the country divided politically..we needed this beautiful escape and reminder of those things that really matter.

Steve is back! 69 years young and he can still belt them out as if time has stood still. Journey was and still is my fav band from the 70's and 80's, melodic rock as many bands that followed added to the genre. Great album, best vocal album I have heard on the 2000's!

I hooked this up to my stereo and streamed it all morning. Just like old times playing Journey songs on the weekend chillin' around the house. It was so nice to hear him again and the songs are in my head now...they flow so easy I'm already singing along ...so easy to remember the words cause they just flow. Let's keep it real, this is better than anything Journey has put out in years, unless of course you count their Greatest Hits 2 (with Steve Perry co-written songs). Perry was the catalyst behind the best songs Journey ever written and released and it shows when you listen Traces. If you're a fan of Perry's solo work you'll love this from the moment you hear No Erasin' until the end of the record. If you're a hardcore fan of Journey, you'll love No More Cryin (like old school Journey) and Sun Shines Grey (uptempo pop rock). Steve is vocally and emotionally weathered and it's brilliant. It's emotive, heartfelt, has great production, catchy melodies and will touch your heart and soul. I'm sad to see some people won't allow themselves to enjoy this work of art and are disappointed. Get out of your nostalgic box and grow up, Steve did and it's epic.

Waited most of my adult life to hear him sing again- When I was a teen, I would listen hours on end to that wonderful voice on the radio in my bedtoom, singing right along with him with my hairbrush in the mirror. When he released both single albums, I wore both out listening to on my cassette recorder, one actually got eaten up by that *#^&@ machine.. Then Steve vanished... I've waited years to hear that same voice move me like he did so long ago. If he tours Central Florida, I'm going to that concert even I have to quit my job-- I'm not missing him, not this time!
