With the sun finally having come out the carp are spending a lot of their time in the upper layers of the water and shallow fishing is the best way to target them.
Being one of Steve's favourite methods, it rewards the angler who keeps busy and works their swim. Get everything right and big weights are on the cards. Here's how he does it...

Hi Steve, Love your sharing, by the way, you're using a size 16 hook which to me is a 6mm long with a 3-4mm hook gap. Wonder how you manage to catch such a big fish without loosing it. Very often when I used such a small hook, the fish swallow it and I had to cut the line.

if you are deep hooking fish all the time then you are most probably fishing on the bottom and fishing over depth plumbing up correctly will stop this if you had plumbed up correctly then 99% of the fish you hook will be hooked in the top lip and to answer your question regarding how he is landing such big fish on light tackle is due to having balanced tackle IE small hooks coupled with light elastic means you can land big fish if you fish heavier elastic with small hooks then that is unbalanced tackle and will result in hook pulls

How do you decide what depth to fish?
@morganrja2703
@morganrja2703 7 жыл бұрын
Generally, you should start by fishing deeper. Then as you start to miss bites, or see the fishing swirling at the bait, you can then come shallower. Have two rigs set up for this (as shown in the video) and then it will make the changing depth much easier
