Steve Vai is the master of great phrasings. No matter how long he solos, it always keeps you engaged, waiting for that next set of great notes that you didn't expect but went together perfectly. That's an extremely difficult skill to learn, especially as effortlessly as Steve Vai seems to do it.

I just love it when Steve plays an arpeggio from the lowest of notes to the highest frets of his guitar, it's just.. EPIC O_O

A friend of mine met him at a Zappa plays Zappa show a few years ago and my friend said that when he went to shake his hand it felt like Vai was shaking his whole arm.

Amazing is right. So much control and touch to make notes sound like that. Virtuoso command over the instrument. The one and only Steve Vai!

WOW! EVO sounds a lot different to my ears than some of the newer 7V's, like the one he was plying in demonstration one. It has a MUCH thicker and richer tone. I can see why he never wants to get rid of it.

I liked the guitar in the first demo. With the frets being designed to make the guitar to be in harmonic tune.

You know what sucks. True and soulful guitar music like this will prolly be gone forever when Vai and the few other greats are gone. Music like this dying out and too many people are too worried about " fast picking" and "sweeping" to just PLAY! I will miss it when it's gone. I can play, but sadly not this good.

the best thing about vai is the way he uses his trem, like no other. u see peeps play fast, then u see vai and malmster play and its in a different realm, its so clean

I think there's something mystic about EVO, you can get any video of a bunch of JEM's models, years etc, even other videos that Steve's himself play another JEM, but EVO is by FAR the best sounding JEM ever.

its just that combo of wood of neck and body that match like that .. I think he explained in another video one time about that that the wood has a lot to do with it and the combination of the wood in the neck and the wood in the body to make one unified tone does tend to affect the sound

There is a synchronicity going on between the neck wood and body!
@Jkoziol72577
@Jkoziol72577 7 жыл бұрын
I do believe Steve himself actually addressed that issue. That the time you get it in the finished product is going to be based off of what kind of wood the neck is made out of and what kind of wood the bodies made out of and the combinations together will create your final tone. I think on his new model that he made for modern primitive or he went with a couple different types of mahogany one for the body and a laminate on top and he's got a wood pickguard in the new model and the different combinations of the wood that are in the neck together at all creates a particular sound I think you made a good choice going with mahogany on the new model

@RojoYamamoto I'm afraid you're wrong, man. About EVO: Evo was one of 5 7v guitars given to Steve in the mid 90's by Ibanez when they first made this model. He has made several changes to it (lots of bridges and 3 necks, if i'm right). So EVO was a white guitar with gold hardware. (you can se Steve playin' it in the Alien Love Secrets videoclips like the Bad Horsie one or the Tender Surrender one. About FLO: Flo was a Jem 77FP (Floral pattern) painted white.

@bunnyboybxb IT is tape w/ the word KNOX on it. The tape is there to prevent the hi e string from getting stuck on the pick up when he hits it hard. On his web site Steve Vai explains that the word "KNOX" is an ancient alchemist mantra & Alester Crowley originated it & used it in his incantations.

id agree with pretty much all of that. why malmsteen is so worshipped is beyond me. i suppose he was fresh when he came on the scene, and he can play frighteningly fast. i guess im not into what he does with his talents, and not a fan of his tone or style or playing. gilbert? well, im indifferent about most of his solo work, but he's damn funny, and worth it for that alone :) i do wish vai would rock out more though sometimes
