What are the top 10 laser materials you will want to use? In this video we look at the 5 advanced materials you should understand and try to use in your projects. These materials won't necessarily cost more but are definitely less commons and can sometimes be more challenging to work with. But together we can take a look and understand where they are most useful along with some of the crucial settings you will need to understand in order to achieve success. Some of these advanced materials do not have a predictable set of parameters and will often require some experimentation.

Thunder Laser USA was started by a guy who runs a quilting subscription business. You basically get material every month and after about a year you've made a quilt. He purchased a Thunder Laser from China and was so impressed he started Thunder Laser USA.

Another informative and enjoyable video. I learned a lot. Your willingness to share is very appreciated. Have you tried EVA craft foam (the colorful foam sheets typically sold in the kids' craft section)?

Yes I have and it cut amazingly well. I'll always raise my usual concern about cutting foam. Make sure they are chlorine free

You have the materials settings in here but what laser is that for? I have a 10Watt and those settings look like they are mm/s instead of mm/m. Is that the only conversion to make or is the power different fir 10Watt as well? Thanks for the videos
@SteveMakesEverything
@SteveMakesEverything 4 ай бұрын
These settings are for most 40W CO2 lasers. I should probably make a new version of this video for diode lasers, but Lightburn has a built-in material test that works very well and it's what I typically use myself.

Where can I get a download of the gradient scale. I like the way yours is set up. (BTW: I'm waiting on my first laser to be shipped to me, so I'm sucking in all info I can)

I heard you say the word "slate" while discussing stone. Slate is common here, and used a lot in country decor. I was going to ask you about slate. Slate does not seem the same as stone to me. I was concerned that it might flake. Have you done any actual slate? You mentioned the obnoxious odor of burning leather in the previous video. Of course, that is one of the materials I would be interested in using. Any other materials to be concerned about the odor?
@SteveMakesEverything
@SteveMakesEverything 3 жыл бұрын
@TALISHAMON slate is beautiful to work with because it is soft and usually pretty flat. If you can get ample supplies of it then I envy you because it's perfect for laser work. My video coming this week is a more detailed look at stone where I create a nice garden stone - you should definitely try that in slate.

when you say spend my laser i use light burn its not in percentages do you know exact numbers like mm/sec
@SteveMakesEverything
@SteveMakesEverything 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. I use Lightburn as well. For this video I was using my Muse 3D which uses percentages. it should be pretty easy to do an educated guess at converting though

The only challenge a diode will have is with clear acylic or glass. However diode laser can easily engrave stainless steel

As a diode user I don’t understand speed expressed in percent.
@SteveMakesEverything
@SteveMakesEverything Жыл бұрын
Independent of the speed setting difference between CO2 and diode lasers, you will end up experimenting with material settings anyway. This is due to the differences in laser wavelength (not to mention the many different laser module powers available), which changes the amount of light energy absorbed by the material. Some companies, like xTool, do a fantastic job of documenting material settings for their lasers and you can check their website for these. If you are using a laser from a different company see if they have a similar table of material settings available.

WHAT?? No mention of marble, especially black? This is relatively inexpensive and readily available at big box stores. It lasers extremely well and using lower-powered hobby lasers.
@SteveMakesEverything
@SteveMakesEverything Жыл бұрын
Well there is really no end to the materials you might want to try. The beach rock here is either basalt or black granite, which are even harder materials than marble and you will also see many people (including me) engraving on ceramic tile. The guidance would be to just trying it, though I already know you will succeed since I did a big job on red/brown marble a while back and it worked out great. You can see this project if you look at the custom projects section of my slicedpi.design website.

When I write Arabic, it is connected. When I do OK, then Arabic is not connected. How can I solve the problem?
@SteveMakesEverything
@SteveMakesEverything 2 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to Inkscape or RE3? In Inkscape you could combine the letters into a single path. This probably has more to do with translating English to Arabic because “OK” is two capital letters, which in English writing wouldn’t be connected either.
