Quickly diagnose serpentine belt squeak caused by drive belt slip on your BMW 2 Liter M47 engine that can be caused by the crank pulley, power steering pulley, water pump, air conditioning pulley, belt tensioner pulley, idler pulley or the alternator. All of these can cause your auxiliary belt / accessories belt / fan belt / power steering belt to squeak on your 2 liter BMW E90, E91, E92, E93, E87 with the M47 engine.

:-) It is even quicker with the knife trick...but I stopped doing that after the one time that the replacement belt ended up being the wrong size!

Not a good practice to wind the engine backwards, avoid if possible. Seems like your crank vibration damper / pulley is tired, it's cracked in the rubber and is starting to let go, replace it sooner rather than later as it will start to do it's job of dampening the vibrations to and from the crank less and less, causing increased bearing wear and tear among other things.

Hi, you wouldn't want to continously wind the oil pump backward many times, but I dont think 1/2 a turn will do much ;-) Yep, that vibration damper has definitely seen better days, but the oil coating everything behind the pulleys is more urgent...

Hi, generally if your diagnostic unit throws up faults for every single glow plug then it is most likely the controller / relay that is faulty. Having said that, I know that it is quite common to replace the controller and all of the glow plugs 'while you're at it' - and I don't think that that is a bad strategy.

@@StevenBTuner I changed the glow plugs 5 months ago and now the car threw 6 codes for all the plugs, I bought the relay and the OE cable for it.

WD-40 isn't very good for rubber belts... Maybe water is safer to test with?

I figure that when there is squeaking going on, then the belt is not going to stay on the car regardless.

@loopylou7813 Hi, it usually means that the belt is getting close to its maximum stretch, but still may last another year.

@markhorridge7104 Hi, if it is an early model with the fixed alternator pulley then it is usually the sound of the belt slipping on the alternator pulley for a fraction of a second on start-up, and nothing to worry about.
