Love watching Silver! Although I did chuckle when you said he wouldn't try to nip again... I immediately thought, "you wanna bet?"!! This is a horse that seems to like to push as far as he can go. I hope I'm wrong, but somehow I think he's going to try nipping more than once again before he decides that isn't in his best interests....😁

Does Silver ride bitless? I'm about to put the first ride on my mustang and I'm using a bitless sidepull. Any first ride tips. My biggest "fear" is him bolting but trying to keep a positive mindset! Thanks for your videos, love them!!

Toby Tails A side pull is good for the first few rides. The most important thing is flexing him side to side a lot. My first mustang was a “bolt a holic.” If he does bolt, try to ignore it and ride it out. A horse usually bolts for about 10-20 seconds then you can bend him around a keep riding. If you scroll down on my channel you will find about 15 videos with my first mustang named Nizhoni. Wish you the best cowboy.

Yes, while lunging he will do a spurt bolt then slow down. I do know about the one rein stop as well. Nizhoni, yes thanks so much! Oh and I'm a cowgirl...lol!

@@SteveDyer I still chuckle at times when I think of you walking... literally...home with Nizoni after your first ride. It reminded me of my sister insisting on riding our stallion bareback. About an hour later, I looked out the window and saw her walking home. About ten steps behind the stallion. (At least he knew the way home. 😃) He was not a horse to ride bareback unless you knew how to ride well. She wouldn't listen. I still chuckle, sometimes downright laugh, when I think of her following obediently behind him as the turned up our driveway.. about 1/4 mile long...and she never could get closer than about 10' behind him. I walked out and he came right up to me. She was SO FURIOUS! 😁❣

Do you also use rubber bits or only steel ones and whats the main difference and reason for your preference?

I have a mare, I bought a few months back,, she does not like her ears touched. When we bridle her, it’s a problem, getting the it on around her ears, she jerks back ect. She takes the bit, with no problem. She came off a ranch. Do you have any suggestions? I would sure like the help

The basics of dealing with it is “approach and retreat.” Start at whatever place she will let you touch her; rub her there and back away. Then try to move 1/2 inch closer to her ear, then back away. This can take days or weeks of gradually approaching but if you are consistent, it will work. If she jerks away from you, just start again and act like it didn’t happen. You can probably find some good videos on KZfaq about dealing with head shy horses.
