In today's episode, I traveled up northern Nigeria to see if what I hear on the news is the actual reality. Kano is known to be the capital of northern Nigeria and home to 20 mIllion People, the second largest city in Nigeria after Lagos, But stands out with its very rich heritage and history.
Kano is also home to some of the richest men in Africa, Topping the list is Dangote now worth, $20 billion, Abdulsamad worth $6.6B. But the reality remains that most people in the north live in abject poverty, and have not been exposed to modern-day technology.

Love this video. But at the same time, I am saddened by the poverty and lack of development in some parts of Kano. Also in a way whilst I respect culture and religion but sometimes holding on too tightly to them can be a detriment. I am not against polygamy but I think it is wrong for any man to take on more than one wife and have numerous children unless they can afford to provide a very decent life for them all. It makes no sense to have 7 wives and 20 children if as a man you can afford to support them. And is it worth the money that Dambe is bringing in if at the end of the day those fighters are unable to enjoy it because they are handicapped or dead? In spite of that, I still love to see our African people working hard trying to make a decent living even with very little help from some of our leaders. Great video bro.

You are very right sir and that is what the Quran teaches marry one wife and if u are capable and want to do it then, marry more than one wives but most northern men marry 3 to 4 wives and can not take care of them and there kids which is a very big sin...what brought about 4 wives started in earlier times when men use to go for wars and most men died so there were less men than women so it was allowed to marry women most especially the widows, the divorcee and the older ones but this days all some men do is go about and marry women 20 years younger than their first wife am not saying its wrong but if u are not capable please don't do it and suffer innocent children and women

Thnx for visiting my state, but you only show the negative site of kano, u miss the positive. why did'nt you visit Academic sector(BUK, MARYAM ABACHA UNI, SKYLINE UNI)etc. to see the best awarded projects & also information tecnology & innovative private enterpreurs , also infrasturucture & Real estate development which has a volume of #trillions naira in kano. Why did'nt visit the tourism sector to explore & the sharada (industial hub). Like ghanian wade maya did. Also the movie industry (kannywood) My freind u need to go back, kano is large to expore

People are always criticizing North's illiteracy. One must makes it clear what illiteracy he is referring to. Western education illiteracy or illiteracy in it's entirety? Vast majority of the northerners can read and write in Arabic language. It's literacy! Isn't it? Nobody is arguing that North is left far behind concerning Western education status but if literacy means 'ability to read or write', then northerners are literate. The number of people that can memorize The holy Qur'an offhand are in millions.

I am a northerner and muslim, but let's not lie to ourselves, most northerners truly are illiterate, both in terms of western and even Islamic education. Sure, majority of us can read the Quran in arabic, but how many of us actually know the meaning of what we're reading? Literacy entails being able to understand what you read, write, and apply it meaningfully.

@@kingxmena that is your kind of thinking, unlike you I have came across so many comments from allover the world identifying Hausa people as the most generous in Nigeria infact even the colonial master said it, but the problem is envy lack knowledge and self centered of the people saying that as a result of brain washed,I wonder how one will describe what he has no knowledge of. I happen to understand that some people take education and civilization as tribe, religion, culture or race,if you do not belong to them,then you are not and that is that even if someone know about Nigeria history the colonials rules north by indirect rule and the reason is because of their education and civilization as at that time they the only ones that have a form writing and reading which is the reason why the colonials employ them as their secretaries in their various colony across Africa.

I did my National Youth Service in Kano, that one year really changed my perspective about the North. I was also opportuned to travel to other neighboring cities like Zaria and Maiduguri during that time. This video really took me back to those days😍 Northerners are not as bad as we think they are, they are actually really peaceful and hospitable. God bless them!

I was born, raised and currently living in Kano with my wife and son. I am Hausa and medical practitioner and I am proud of every single part of this video, thousands of NYSC members from the south are willing to stay here after they finish their services because they find it very interesting unlike what they have been hearing before they came. I grew up in Brazil, my grandfather was African Brazilian, and I always saw Africans as my close cousins. I now live in the United States, and even though people know Africa is rapidly developing, there is still a lot of ignorance about the reality of the continent. Correction; 1. Kaduna is the Capital of Nothern Nigeria. Kano is the commercial center of the North. 2. Up North: We aren’t Poor or Illiterates. Before the advent of western civilization in Africa, Northern Nigeria had their working ruling and educational system (Arabic and Islamic knowledge). Farming and trade had been in existence in Nothern Nigeria since Pre-colonial era. I’ll urge you to conduct more research Up North, there are a lot of things you don’t know.

There's poverty everywhere in Nigeria; there's a reason Nigeria was confirmed the world's poverty capital some years back. Poverty is even worse in the north where beggars surprisingly form unions! I remember these beggars threatening to oust the Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, at some point. Today, the South is welcoming a truckload of beggars from Northern Nigeria. These are facts that nobody can hide. The problem of Nigeria is that we are comfortable living in denial and we have accepted anomalies as norms. Those who question why the status quo remains unchanged are called haters or enemies of the state. This doesn't in any way suggest that Nigeria's north has no positives, but we proudly carry the poverty badge, and we don't even elect the right leaders to help us change the lachrymal narrative.

The media is not lying, Northerners are probably the sweetest people in Nigeria, but you cant deny the banditry, the kidnapping and religious crises especially if you are not an indigene, so although it has rich history and heritage, it isn't all white roses as you are depicting and this is coming from someone who has travelled to a lot of places in Nigeria.

I've always tried to convince people in the South that the North is not exactly what they think it is.. there is more beauty even amist all these Crises.. thank God for people like you that is helping the Southerns see that beautiful part.

Thank God you're beginning to get enlightened geographically.Before all these kidnapping/banditory stuff, the North is one of the best place to be,live and work,even school,talk of hospitality and other advantages...As someone who was born and bred in kaduna state,I couldn't be more grateful. I grew up in a highly diverse neighborhood/ environment were at an early age I got to learn about different tribes and cultures. As such I can tell d different tribes from their native conversations or names.wouldnt trade that experience for anything.plus kaduna was like the peak of the whole North way back then, the exposure is on another level...
