Okay, once I said that NOBODY can cover Linda Ronstadt (even though most of her career are all covers), but here, I give the award to Stevie. I love Stevie (probably more than Linda) but was doubtful that she could carry this song. I was wrong. Totally wrong. And the lesson here is to never underestimate Stevie Nicks' talents. Stevie and Linda are two of the three female artists I admire the most when it comes to singing; the third being Ann Wilson. Those three women are voices of my youth and my generation and I love all three over any other.

Ronstadt was Queen of her Scene. Tributes and honors are nice - but Linda often seemed to find Fame ( and she was easily the female superstar of the 70s) a drag. Vocally the sound of her voice was rare, remarkable and transforming.

John Rowan, thank you for that memory. I am rather new to KZfaq; came here after seeing the documentary on Ms. Ronstadt in September and was so eager to find more clips of her performances. An added bonus has been comments like yours, in which personal memories of early and obscure "gigs" are shared. Your memory is just one more feather in this artist's glorious cap and proof of Ms. Ronstadt's mantra that music is a cooperative, not competitive enterprise. How fortunate you were to get a glimpse of Ms. Rondtadt when she was a fledgling singer learning how to fly!

In recent years following the onset of Parkinsons, she's spoken candidly about how much she misses making music. She is much missed too of course but I can't think of any popular singer who's given so many people so much pleasure and that must give her a measure of solace. As an aside, I've always loved her ferocity when she sings. When she opens her mouth wide, and pulls back her lips to produce full volume she's a force of nature. Thrilling!

I like learning about all the cross over and relationships that go on with California white musicians, who were cultivating the "california sounds" from the late 60s through the 70s when they began touring and were overwhelmed with success, and then often burned out. til rehab or soul searching in the 80s and 90s. I know that Linda and Stevie both were with Don Henley, and Souther and probably crossed over men besides them. I know Stevie was with Waddy for a bit. they all played together and partied together. Some were nice and some were mean, but damn did they make some memorable tunes! Special Kudos to the ladies who had to contend with a lot of pressure- both personal and professional -from men who were sometimes abusive.

I have commented this before that many non-rock and roll artists (Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackso etc.) that were inducted had no business in this award. I even expressed my attitude towards it. I am very appalled that many of them were given the ward while many rock and roll artists (Megadeth, Alice in Chains, Pantera etc) are not. But Linda Ronstadt is, in my opinion, an exception and even though her roots is country music, she was one of the pioneers of the Country and Rock subgenre the Southern Rock plus she can't be put in only one genre of music. She did a bit of everything from Country Music to the Hippy Rock Psychedelic Music to Pop to Love songs to Rock and Roll to Folk Music to Classical and in between.

LOL on your inclusion of "Prince should not be there" . He could play any instrument and any genre of music he desired. And the others you have mentioned? Alice was not even eligible until many years AFTER Michael and Madonna got in. Your not snubbed it you are not even eligible and even then, Alice is not a "first year" inductee. If you want to talk snubs who rocked hard...List Judas Priest, Scorpions, Ronnie James Dio, Thin Lizzy, Jethro Tull, Guess Who, and others from the late 60s/early 70s who have been snubbed for 20 years or more. They (along with Maiden and Motorhead snubbed ) deserve in before the likes of Megadeth and Alice.

Stevie is out of her element and can't seem to get the same power as Linda. Oh well, the tribute was nice.

it was a fantastic tribute I'm sure was an honor to do.I agree Stevie is a bit out of her element with this song ..she's very flat and monotone ..Stevie may of done better with " no good".. I can see her doing that before this song notes are just to high..well done tho it was nice..Carrie Underwood did sing different drum beautifully perfect song for her to sing .Carrie prolly should of done them all ..

Please the song is 40 years old. Stevie did fine and put her own spin on this song. I don't even think Linda would sound like she did 40 years ago and no diss to Linda intended.

Like Linda doing Rhiannon. I bet Linda was cool about Stevie out front on her tune. At least they didn't do something like Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me or something that Linda couldn't be covered in good.

Stevie and the ladies did their best. It was like if Linda did Rhiannon. Still like it though.

I'm glad Stevie didn't try to "be" Linda. She sang the song in her own way to honor her.

I think that Stevie's guitarist, Waddy Wachtel, played with Linda.

He was with Linda's band until she moved on from Rock. Nicks got some of Ronstadt's players after she left a dying Rock Scene that she helped create. They never sounded as super great with Stevie as they did with Linda.

Esta canción es mi favorita de Linda, y para mi gusto debió de cantarla Bonnie Raitt en lugar de Stevie Nicks
