I'm a lifelong jazz piano player. This song exemplifies Stevie Wonder's genius--the chord progression is so unique and it repeats a very catchy hook. The synth accompaniment is a nice touch.

Possibly his most comprehensive track on this double album.... Many lifelong SW fans like me are drawn to his ballads and this one is definitive vintage...Playful, futuristic, and vocally dynamic... Stevie Wonder... The G.O.A.T.....

No idea exactly what this song is about, but the repeated chord progression is really hypnotic. It’s a great driving song. But then it’s a great singalong driving album. (If only my family enjoyed my singing along....) The layering of different vocals is really cool too. I never fast forward through this one.

Been a SW fan since the1960s. Love this album endlessly. However, in my restless youth I failed to at first appreciate this song. One day I surrendered my self, and really listened to it. I knocked me down, like the Holy Ghost.

Nice Reaction...Songs in the Key of Life should be blasted from speakers all over the world for a solid year...It would fix it all...I've loved this album since it dropped back in the day...As, Have a talk with God, Sir duke, Contusion - * there is a great live version of that on youtube, Village Ghetto land * melody copped by EVERYONE...:)...Stevie is a genius...Unfortunately, he has bad people around. him. ... One must hear As 10 times in a row... Inner visions is a masterpiece as well...

I saw Stevie Wonder do “Songs in the Key of Life” in its entirety! And I’m a grown ass man, but when he sang this song, I had some tears! 😢😂. And all my thug ass friend who saw the show said the same! This song just hits you in your core!

I bought this album when it came out. It's aged beautifully. This song, "Joy inside my tears", was, in my opinion, the album's highlight. It isn't the type of song that could be a hit single because it's long and requires some patience to get through. And yes, it's repetitive. But it's really special. Before the internet and KZfaq videos, I once bought this whole album for a co-worker just so she could hear this song!

This song has so much emotion especially the parts where he raises his voice not really yelling I guess you could call it bellowing Stevie I don't think gets enough credit for his vocal ability try singing some of his songs and you'll see

Another I didn't know I knew 'til the titular hook, or maybe the lead-up to, and I hear what you mean in the references it evokes for you, both 'Layla' and 'Shine On...'. Simply Wonder-ful. D

I was already thinking one of his voices at the end was in agony. Then you said Layla, which is full of pain. I think its about his mothers death (before and after) like at the deathbed.. it starts like a lullaby goodbye then a growing breakdown. Think I'd skip this one.
