You can also soften butter by filling a large glass with hot steamy water to warm the glass….wait a minute to warm the glass…empty the water and invert the glass over the still wrapped butter and wait five minutes…voila the butter is softened.

I always leave my butter out. Keep out of direct sunlight to keep butter from oxidizing and getting rancid.

We have a covered butter dish that stays out on the counter 24/7 365 days of the year LOL. We use real butter not margarine, our Family has done this my whole life and I'm 59. Never and trouble with it going bad.

I like to keep my butter in the freezer so I just use a cheese grater or food processor. The result is room temperature butter.

I still keep my tooth pics in a hot sauce bottle . Like they did in little country cafe's fifty years ago it's skinny and tall enough that it doesn't get lost.

The time in the microwave also differs when you use this plate or a pie plate. You need less time with a small plate.

Once you learn how your microwave heats things, you will know how long and what power you need to soften a stick of butter. Or, if you plan ahead, just leave the butter out on the counter beforehand. The lemon toothpick disposal thing may be "cute", but it's wasteful and dumb. I have never seen a toothpick accidentally pierce one of today's tough garbage bags.

Another trick to do the same is to run a drinking glass under hot water, stand the stick center on its end and invert the glass over it. No chance of melted center

Best way to soften a stick of butter without having it melt run your microwave for 45 50 seconds on high then put your butter that's on a plate or in a bowl in the microwave real fast open put it in shut it and leave it the heat will really soften it up and I've never had my melt. Just a tip neither way is wrong.

Leave your real butter covered on the counter. If you must soften butter in the microwave use a mug to elevate your butter dish in the microwave and you won't have to worry about toothpicks or lemons. Or cleaning the greasy mess when your toothpicks fail you and the whole thing falls over 😂

I got a better one! That is much more healthier. With only 3 items 1-stick of butter 2-Hot water from the faucet/or boil some water. 3-cup to hold both. Give it a few minutes. You can use 1 toothpick to test if it will go all the way in or you would need a few more minutes. Or just squeeze it lightly.
