Knowing what we know now about USAG, this movie hits differently. The entire Olympic Trials process was a scam the whole time the Karoyli’s ran the team. They made the girls compete, and then Bela would ask the judges to sign off the list he’d made of who he felt should go based on his preferences.

They do that on purpose on bars because in gymnastics your feet and legs have to be squeezed together or you get deductions. So, people who's body type don't allow their legs to meet have to turn their feet inwards so at least their toes are together in order to have the appearance judges like. If they just pointed their toes and their legs were a part on bars, they would get deductions. Aliya Mustafina and Rebecca Bross do the same thing. All 3 girls score very high on bars.

Where was that double layout at the olympics?
@theshillneckedlizard8364
@theshillneckedlizard8364 3 жыл бұрын
I'm no gymnast but my understanding is that a double layout is easier to do than say, a Fabrichnova dismount (see Beth Tweddle's Olympic dismount for an example) and so it earns a slightly lower score. And obviously at the Olympics, being the ultimate in sports, everyone tries to do the most difficult routine that they can successfully perform, to earn a higher difficulty score. That probably explains why Nastia chose to do a piked double with a half twist to get a 7.7 difficulty score, rather than the easier layout.
@educatedinyellow8189

So gymnastics judges are known for expecting perfection and giving deductions to silly things sometimes, in this movie one of the characters does a perfect vault but gets deducted because her bra strap was showing. So the gymnasts came together and basically decided who deserved to win each event by scratching (getting an automatic zero) and not doing their routine. So Nastia got the gold in this scenario. It's such a good movie I really recommend it!

Because all the other gymnasts are throwing the competition in protest at the biased judging. Once a gymnast touches the apparatus they are deemed to have started their routine, so they all walk up and deliberately slap the bars and walk off so they get a score of zero.

@@howardlam6181 this is clownery. "weightlessness" is not an objective tool of measuring high quality or well-executed gymnastics, so i'm honestly very embarrassed for you right now. it is simply your own personal bias, which is nothing but racism, regardless of how much you deny it. truth is truth, whether you want to acknowledge it or not and your prejudice IS showing. the US gymnastics field today is so deep and OBJECTIVELY filled with more dynamic talent than it is has been in decades. one of the best times for gymnastics in so long, and across multiple fronts. this is an objective truth whether you like it or not, and there are objective measures to prove it. your weird and arbitrary "weightless" requirements are simply EUROCENTRIC tomfoolery. look at the code of points and judge people based on their actual performances and scores, OR kindly just zip your trap forever. we don't need your arbitrary and meaningless commentary or criticism. i am so sick of people like you who give absolutely no time of day to the TOP gymnasts because of made up, arbitrary aesthetic judgements like this. and it's incredibly difficult to believe there is any other reason for your behavior besides the TOP competitors being MOSTLY BIPOC and not fitting your extremely narrow (and completely subjective, not based on actual metrics of scoring, and yes, RACIST) ideas of what "graceful" gymnastics looks like. very weird behavior on your part. i won't even be glimpsing at any of your further replies to me or this comment or engaging whatsoever with you (or any comments under this post for that matter), so you can skip your derailed response where you completely deny being racist or some other bullshit evasion tactic which i know you'll pull - because i won't even know you made the comment in the first place lol. cuz i've seen your type a million times before, and you may be fooling yourself out of understanding your own racism, but i see it plain as day. and i know i'm not the only one who sees right through your outdated and biased criticisms, and POOR ATTITUDE which has no place in the new era of gymnastics. i'm tired of people being afraid to speak up against your kind of troll. you're no longer welcome here as you are showing up and we want people like you to either reflect on your very harmful learned biases and change them LIKE THE REST OF US ARE ACTIVELY DOING. or leave. find some other sport, your racism and prejudice (and others' like yours) is ruining this sport and has been since its inception. again i cannot emphasize enough, go somewhere else. the Black and BIPOC women who are dominating this sport fairly, squarely and GRACEFULLY don't deserve your poisonous presence in THEIR sport.

Ssdi the gymnasts decided eho they thought was the best on3 each apparatus, and tbey other gymnast scratched so the best actually won. Of course it was just a movie, would never really happen. Basically on the first event final, one of the main characters got a .500 deduction on a perfect vault because her bra strap was showing so for the rest of the vault and the other event finals, the gymnasts decided to pick one gymnast to compete a full routine that would get scored and the rest would scratch so that the person who should've won that event would end up actually winning it

They do it on purpose. Gymnastics is different from dance. We don't use the word "sickle". It's not a thing. Every event requires legs and feet to be squeezed together or else you get deductions for your legs being apart. Gymnasts with body types that don't allow their legs to meet turn their feet inward on purpose, on bars, to give the effect that their legs are together and not separated. It gives the gymnast the benefit of the doubt in the judge's eyes that she is trying to keep her legs together instead of just being "loosy goosey"-which is a term gymnastic coaches use.

...says a dancer😑. This routine was the hardest and longest at the time

Also the judges only see the routine from the side and there’s a deduction if her feet are separated.

E Long well I agree that it's a really hard routine and I absolutely loved it. No hate either. Being a dancer sickles feet are a big Nono and we're so used to it that's why we feel that way.😊😊😊😊

Love her, but why would her parents name her Nastia? Think of how much teasing she prolly went through. 🤦

They didn't. Nastia is her nickname. Her name is actually Anastasia. Nastia is the Russian diminutive for Anastasia, like calling someone Jenny for Jennifer, or Kate for Katherine.

How does it encourage poor sportsmanship? I mean athletes sticking up for each other at a personal cost to them because of the injustice the see from their competitors. This is the a prime example of sportsmanship.
