Being a retired welder, I would have NEVER taken that machine apart! But you bought it and it was yours to do with as you saw fit. KEEP ON SCRAPPIN!

I hear you but nobody wants them old machines anymore there's some machines the size of a suitcase that'll run circles around that thing and weigh 10 lb with a shoulder strap... sad to say it's Antiquated technology.

@@w.e.smithereens8178 Nobody wanted it. It's sold at the auction for ten dollars. Nobody even wanted the cracked leads that were worth more than $20 in scrap. Where were the aspiring welders... Probably home playing with their twenty pound suitcase.

The connections and insulators on the front of it actually sell pretty good online...if you're into that.... and obviously, if it's got cables, they're copper....

@@ScrapFarm well it just hard to watch. My ole pappy uses a forney farm welder in is garage until he had to retire because of health issues. It's a 50 something model and still welds. Yours looked like it had hardly been used.

That stick welder is a 1962 model my dad bought one like it new, was a good all around machine. kind of a shame to scrap it out.

It is a shame but it's obsolete and nobody wants them... you can get a machine nowadays the size of a backpack that will run circles around it... and apparently it was only worth $10

Always good too have inside projects too do. Summer and winter 110 is just too hot to be out in for any length of time for sure. Great that you can still make money by scrapping .

I love copper being removed. And wire being stripped. A guy in. BC. Canada has a small scrap yard he cleans every thing he can,friidges stoves, washers dryers any kind of motors very interesting. Sure to bad about that thing you took apart.

Hi, Bert just a thought the welder you took apart the face of it would look great with clear paint on it and the knobs and connectors glue back on it hanging on a wall in someone's Garage. Just a thought. Keep those videos coming.

should of stuck it on ebay. One a little older sold for $180. Someone would defiantly of wanted that.Not worth the $5 in scrap you got from it to destroy it.Selling items for parts/repair on ebay is easy money with very little risk.Any electronics you find 1970 or older are wanted by someone,I have sold many solid state tvs for quite a bit on ebay.

Yeah 180 and how much was the shipping this thing weighs like 250 lb... I know there's more money online there's always more money online but I don't like dealing with it. So to the scrap yard it goes. And I won't have to wait 30 days for my money just in case somebody wants to return it.

Fix that thing and teach your self how to use it if you dont already know how to weld. You'll make more money welding than scrapping..

I watch Canadian Treasure Hunter and he is a full-time real scrapper. Lately he has really been saying/complaining that he’s seeing less and less copper and more and more aluminum. He tears down parts down to the nitty-gritty on everything.

What you found out is so true with many low duty cycle welders. ALuminum was used a lot. Even the famous Lincoln tombstone welder is copper clad aluminum wire in the windings. Do you still have the socket and inserts on the welder face part ??? I need them for my welder. Thanks

You could use them plug-ins for like jumper cables permanently hook them to your battery

I just cut apart old Montgomery Wards unit didn't work . Was all copper transformers . Believe me tried fixing it and so I know failed transformers peel apart easy

These black or silver square plates are not aluminium. It's a selenium rectifier turning AC to DC for battery loading.

I could of told you it was aluminum wound!!! Every Forney welder I have torn apart has been aluminum wound !! Even the one's that are supposed to be copper !!! I have torn 5 welders apart and only 2 was wound with copper !!!!😊

I'm guessing $50 with it being aluminum if it was copper it would be over a hundred. Didn't take much longer than the video really. Maybe 45 minutes with recording it if I wasn't recording it probably 20 LOL

When does it become not worth the time and effort you put into it? Instead of just kicking it into the light iron or whichever pile? Just seems like alot of work for very little copper. I do however enjoy the deconstuction part. Thanks Bert.

A dusk mask maybe be a good piece of PPE when scrapping old items like that welder because you may have encounter some asbestos used as an internal heat barrier on some of those cables.

@@strr60sevenunsolicited61 a few people have made comments about that machines but the way I look at it if it was worth something it would have sold for a lot more than $10 at the auction... and really all the money from scrap and it came from The Wire the rest of it was really not worth much if the Transformer what's copper it would have been worth a lot
