Stick Stainless, dude! Trying to control that puddle is probably the single hardest thing I know of in welding, the only way I can describe it is like melting crayons into the Sun.

wanting to learn to weld for years, now finally got a weldigmachine as a gift, an italian Deca stickwelder...not sure if this is the easiest way to start learning, but it's a beginning :-) If this would be the result after decent amount of practise, i'd be very very happy! nice job, thanks for sharing!

Nice job. I often stock weld stainless whenever the conditions are right. In a maintenance and repair situation it beats GTAW. Esab makes some of the best electrodes I have ever used for SS. The SS fcaw can be a pretty useful process too.

i also tried 2mm pipe but i had problems. not enough current = no good penetration and no slag on the inside (bad for stainless) and too much current = have to move fast zigzag motion to prevent burning holes + only few centimeters welding possible because of heat building up too fast.

Esab 63.20-316L I started from 10 amps and then rise it up, dont know really what amps I had when I welded it, probably somewhere around 25 to 35 amps, then turn it down to 10 amps again when I stopped welding. 7018 and 7014 are made for black steel.

At 2:49. U can seen that this is not 2mm.. Even ends of the tubes may have burr. Looks like 2.9mm. But anyway.. It is hardest job to stickwelder to master 2mm stainless.. Not if only reguiments are that u can make it leakproof.. but when u have to weld it in EN ISO 5817 class B. And its easiest in test. But in field its different u may not have space to go around with right hand.. may need left hand.. u may be standin on ladder when welding or might need mirror.. or maybe 4mm gap.. 2mm stainless in stickwelding is what separates best from good..

If I can decide I stick weld it, becouse I dont have to worrie about gasses and so on. But when I am working I have to do as the code tells me. Most of the time I am stick welding stainless, it also depents what kind of a factory I am working, papermills usually want us to use stick and heat plants and oil factories want tig welding.

I can see he "got it done" it looks a bit cold at the early part, maybe a couple more amps would have helped. I still would have Tig welded it myself. I've never had a lot of luck welding with 1.6mm rods, very difficult to keep a consistent arc.
