I have some 684s that are doing the same exact thing. Could you explain your process a little? I see you are using thinner to get the old stuff off. Could isopropyl alcohol work as well? Then i see that you buffed it, that is the part were I have some questions. Mainly, what grits did you start with and finish with? Also did you coat ut with anything afterwards or leave it with the buffed surface?

ISO won’t touch it, even thinners needs some elbow grease! I think I used heavy medium and fine as per any cut and buff. I think I used the Roar compound in an orange bottle which is really heavy cut. I finished of with some car wax 👍

Is this the type of finish that feels like velvet when new? (velvet, peach skin or something)

Feels more like plastic to me, like a silky rubber.

@@HewAndAwe ah, I think it maybe is similar, lot of plastic objects are cowered with this also, lime umbrella handle, computer mouse, weber salt+pepper grinder etc, after a while it turns sticky, or deteriorates, impossible to get off, or clean. Is it plastic under this on the speakers also?
