The hyundai is the only car in it's segment and the only car that i know of apart from Mclaren in the world that is maintaining the warranty for the car even with track use. Awesome stuff

I spent a day driving the i30N around Millbrook a few weeks ago, and it is a very impressive car. The e-diff is fantastic, and gives incredible front end bite in all conditions. The engine sounds good and feels strong, and there's a playful feel to the handling that reminded me of a Peugeot 306 GTI-6. What's more despite a full day of being thrashed to within an inch of their lives, including one car that spent the day being revved to its limiter in neutral by 60 or so people so they could hear the pops and bangs, nothing broke, fell off, or stopped working. The idea that a Hyundai would be mentioned in the same sentence as a Golf GTI would have been laughable a couple of years ago, but this really does do things a GTI can't. Mostly deliver a genuine sense of fun and a level of interaction in the handling that is missing from so many modern cars. It's an absolutely brilliantly set up, thoroughly developed car that deserves to sell as fast as they can build it.

Some say, he can be in two places at once. And he only uses such an ability to race against himself.

As a MK7 GTI owner I am in awe of Hyundai. The rise in the last 10 years is epic.

Hyundai is really becoming a great manufacturer. They’ve had their time/years to experiment... and are now producing some good cars for good value! I hope their hot hatch continues!

VW Golf is always known for creating the benchmark in its segment. Finally, an arch rival in i30N form.

All those exhaust crackles in the Hyundai from the inside makes it sound like it's got a loose driveshaft or something lol

And with this, the FWD hot hatch segment is intense.. With the Type R at the very top. Just wish there would be a new MazdaSpeed3 to compete, but the i30N is a monster and the GTI is a performer as to be expected. I'm an AWD snob (drive a 400hp STi hatchback) but for the first time might be willing to make the switch

Still appreciate Golf Gti mated with DSG. Most user friendly especially during urban driving & traffic jam.

The Hyundai I30 N is a daily driver built by Biermann to be pushed and punished, and that's why Hyundai won't void your warranty if you take it to the track and push it. The GTI is a plush daily driver that will not withstand the punishment. VW now has to up its game, which means better brakes, bushings and suspension upgrades to run with the N.

Wow, those are some tricky conditions in the rain and it really doesn't test both cars against each other properly.

If I got a dollar for every sunny/dry top gear track review... I'd have a dollar! Move the Stig to Australia man... Hasn't rained here in like 2 years!

I actually own a 2014 Golf GTI and I absolutely adore the thing. It does absolutely everything I could ever ask of it. It's reliable, efficient and I think it looks stunning as well! The Hyundai might be sportier, I still love the overall package of the GTI and just the allround capabilities of the thing. It's so damn good in just about everything it does. Of which only 0.05% is track driving in my ownership. Couldn't ask for more, probably going to order a Golf R soon since I like to change my cars frequently. This GTI stays in the family though. Kudo's to Hyundai for making a good hot hatch! It's not a brand I have any connection with and the design is not for me. But I do wish them all the best. Liking one of these cars doesn't mean you have to hate the other. I wish all future buyers of these cars an awful lot of fun!
