West Coast Saw has some mean-looking felling dogs that don't skimp on quality. In this video I'll show you how I installed them on my Stihl ms291. You can find this product here: westcoastsaw.com/

Thank you. Exactly what I needed. You explained all the bits the other videos don't. I will proceed to WCS and buy some 261 dogs.

Would having a longer bar be compromising the performance on the sthil MS 250 chainsaw

And yes I had to put other bolts on it because they were the short

Question. Would you know if I could fit these dogs on a stihl 025?
@appalachiandiy2415 Жыл бұрын
They have ones that fit the older saws. Check their website

I thought I wanted a set of these but I’m not sure I like the idea of the dog being bolted onto that cheesy plastic cover.
@ciphercode2298 Жыл бұрын
The pressure would be spread equally between both dogs,and if you're putting so much pressure leaning on your saw that you break them you're doing it wrong anyway. If you feel like you need a magnesium cover you'll have to step up to a pro saw. As far as I know stihl is the only manufacturer that provides allowances for adding an outside spike to their non pro saws,so just say thank you stihl.🙄

ms261 has a magnesium cover, not plastic

Hey man cool video just dropping some knowledge for you , your couple of minor complaints are simply due to the fact that you have a home owner saw other models like a 261 “pro saws” don’t run into that issue
@appalachiandiy24153 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing the pro models have the recess for the dogs on the cover then?
@TheRichardDeurloo3 жыл бұрын
@@appalachiandiy2415 correct , I just went out and double checked mine just to make sure before commenting but there’s a couple different ways to identify the pro saws from home owner saws .. that being one ... the pro saws have a harder cover not exactly sure the material it’s more like a metal where as the homeowner saws have the plastic casing ... all in all not here to diss your saw at all .. thank you for the vid I just ordered those dogs this morning and look forward to sportin them myself 🤙🏼

@@TheRichardDeurloo the material used on the stihl pro saws is magnesium.

I think the nuts go on inside cover side.
@ac7fd9 ай бұрын
nope, the nuts always face the outer side to eliminate any possibility to catch the chain. Every stock setup I've seen had the nuts on the outside and the hex head of the screw is on the inside. He did it correct.
@michaelbradley7704 ай бұрын
@@ac7fd according to the stihl hardware kit that came with my dogs it shows the bolt on the outside and the nuts inside the cover
@ac7fd4 ай бұрын
@@michaelbradley770 my coworker is a former Stihl dealer who sold and serviced many saws to loggers in Alaska and he confirmed what I had stated. The nut always on the outside for the reasons I’ve posted. It’s a free country. Do what makes most sense to you. I find the argument logical and have them installed that way on all my saws.
@michaelbradley7704 ай бұрын
@@ac7fd and I am literally looking at the stihl dog installation diagram and the only nut being shown on the outside of the cover is for the chain catch

@@michaelbradley770 I believe you. It still does make more sense to install it the way the professionals do. Maybe they have some experience….

Always buy pro level saws and you wont have to worry about retrofitting anything and can run a long ass bar. It’s worth it to spend that little bit more, save up until you can do it right. No disrespect to the video, just saying.
@jamestobin4849 Жыл бұрын
You clearly don’t do any high level bucking or actual forestry work. These dogs have saved me hours of work and I only use magnums.
@adruery Жыл бұрын
@@jamestobin4849 trust me, I do. I think you may have misunderstood me. I am in support of big dogs. I use them on most of my saws. I am saying buy pro level so that when u are adding aftermarket dogs u don’t have to retrofit the clutch cover.
@jamestobin4849 Жыл бұрын
@@adruery your totally right I did misunderstand. Thought you were just saying they aren’t worth it. As a trail guy most of my cutting is bucking in pretty sketchy scenarios I can legitimately say dogs have saved my life a few times. Otherwise I’d be over the top of some 5 ft cedars that we’re about to go.
