The 462 in you're video has metal chain catcher I can see it. I don't care for the metal catchers myself, as they will ding up the chain and can clog when you make noodles, the roller catchers prevent all these issues. A chain catcher of some type is a 100% must, it's only a matter of time before you throw a chain, and you do not want that to happen without a catcher, or a damaged one.

I am wanting to get everything that's on your 462 Stihl. But on a 400 Stihl. That's the dream saw I want to use when I start back up into brushing. Using an echo timberwolf for now.

Chain catcher gives a bit of support and stability to the dogs, and I know you said you don’t believe in them but you have the original one fitted under the clutch cover😉

they recommend a chain catcher for dual dogs so it doesn't bend your cover - have you gotten one yet?

The thickness of the bark ' the thicker the bark the lower the # Also it's crucial to run a chain catcher on longer bar's.

You didn't mention the thickness of the bark relation to the dawg' intended purpose. Also you should run a chain catcher especially on longer bar's

The piltz look like pro safety knock offs. I had the 5 point pro safety on my 441. Used the bottom spike to hang it on trees lol.

The giant elephant in the room is that there is a huge gap between the top dog and the middle dog. And that is the very reason that I'm trying to find a review on these dogs. I AM a western timber faller and I've only cut with one guy that tried these 3 point dogs and he was a rookie so I didn't put a lot of weight in his opinion but even he did not like them. In my mind, when working in bigger timber with deep bark fissures while putting the sloping (lower) cut in a humboldt undercut and dealing with butt swell, that big gap seems to be just exactly where one would want and need a spike. And there is a reason that the bottom spike is long and hangs down below the saw frame- it allows a cutter to dog in on that lower cut without hitting the saw cases first. Remember the old 090's with those worthless crescent shaped dogs? You don't? Everybody replaced them with dogs that actually worked. So that's the real question. Do these dogs work in a real world industrial timber cutting setting? I'm not talking about tree service work but the work done by those that feed the mills. Fallers aren't stupid. If we were we'd all be dead on the first day. If these 3 point dogs were a better idea somebody would have thought of it decades ago. And they didn't.

Max air flow, WCS bark box, WCS 3 point felling dogs. If you wanted it ported, I’d get in with some guys who do porting and get a nice hot port job done on it.

the purpose of the chain catcher is actually to provide stability to the dogs, not just to cache the chain yah silly

BTW, the stock felling dogs on your MS462 are so flimsy because they are trying to absolutely trying to minimize weight, especially for the MS 462 where they are trying to maximize power vs. weight ratio. It's all about marketing.

Just chop the spikes off! You'll get more cutting done. They're fine as a bump stop to save your crankcase etc, but they won't make you cut faster. The saw should be able to dig itself in under its own weight without you needing to lever it through using a dog. They also require you to make an extra effort as you have to lift the saw back out of the cut to reposition, instead of just letting the saw slide around the log as you cut further through it. Another negative against them is that they reduce your cutting capacity, in this case by several inches!

The wcs is a copy of the pro safety 3 point, they've had em for a while, pro safety shop is a mile away from me

Those dogs look serious. I stabbed my hand with one about a week ago. It bled like a SOB. I won’t do that again. Those dogs you have there would have been even worse. 😳

I got a plits dog for my sthil ms 250 c and I find them very good apart from the bottom spike as I have to pull the saw back a fair amount to get the dog to move down the ring to cut up some wood rings. I’ve got my dog’s from eBay and I have got a set of dogs for my new sthil ms 261 CM as the farm center doesn’t have any dogs in stock and they don’t have any contacts for ordering any extra dogs for the sthil saws they sell here in Ireland 🇮🇪 😤

Love my 462 and love it…I’m no pro but to me it’s a beast. Put WCS 3 felling dogs and work great. Bark box will be here soon. I know some had said they can’t really tell difference but it can’t hurt? Competition my be better but I’m not looking to go def anytime soon.
