Good trimming method. You forgot to mention that the first cut is to prevent the limb from peeling down into the trunk when it falls.

Yep...helmet is just a helmet....putting a 6 cent husky sticker on a Chinese helmet certainly doesn't make a person loyal to one brand lol I've been picked apart a few times for it....finally the other day I just pulled the sticker off bhahha

Thanks Josh you just made my mind up on this saw. I'm 67 and need a lightweight pole saw and easy storage. I have the Farm Boss chainsaw and it is an awesome saw but too heavy for me with me being 150 pounds and should have bought less saw but didn't listen to the Stihl salesman who tried to sell me a 170 and now I have a beefy saw but pay after each use. I also have Stihl trimmer I love the easy pull start system of stihl products. I want to thank you for a very nice demo video.

Not only that it pinches your saw, it also prevents the branch from ripping bark from the trunk of the tree as it is tipping down from the main part of the tree. But i'm glad you said under cut first, then cut down from the top, that will prevent tearing of bark from the main part of the tree. Nice job Josh. Your farm looks so great.

I don't know if mine is the same as mine, which is a Kombi system. The pole saw is amazing I love it. It keeps my trees pruned neatly and I have also pruned many friend's trees. Money well spent.

Yeah the 3 cut method is the best way to trim branches off a tree - you don't get any tearing of the bark down the trunk so the wound heals faster , never do a single cut !

Great Demo!! I've been looking at these saws and now you have me leaning towards this one due to being much lighter than the commercial ones. The newest ones are named 56C-E not sure what the difference would be.... I need to keep my trees trimmed up to 13 to 14 feet. Have you tried using the HT 56C on a good step ladder? I'm 5' 10", looks like I would have to go up a couple steps. Thanks again! Great Job in presentation and Cutting!!

I would want one more if it extended out further and didn't weigh so much. I really like my Oregon 40v battery operated one which actually has surprising power with the 9" chain. In fact it seems to kick butt over the 16" Oregon battery operated one which is a bit of a dud although for maybe up to 6" stuff not so bad. I may get the Stihl one anyway seems pretty rugged.

When pruning trees, even if it's just a canopy lift, you never want to prune off over 25% of the trees foliage. 25% from an arborcultural stand point is an extreme maximum, and a experienced knowledgeable arborist will try to keep it between 10 to 15%. This insures it doesn't shock the tree and stress it out so bad. Trees have a chemistry that controls things like growth rates and growth patterns, alot like people do, and once you cross a threshold of environmental streesors, many organisms including trees, will never fully recover to maintain a normal chemistry. When pruning, less is more, and it's better to do heavy prunings over a period of years to keep everything within acceptable margins. Most people don't realize when you over prune a tree, it completely messes up the trees chemistry, and as a result the tree will go crazy with growth, often times creating a high maintenance situation, which ironically is what most people are trying to avoid. The layman won't typically see a noticeable difference over pruning on a canopy lift, as it forces growth upward, but the chemistry shift could cause the upper canopy branching structure, problems further down the road, from the chemistry being out of balance. Which would cause a growth pattern that's less than optimal. Examples would be speed up growth and over excessive growth in the upper canopy, creating weaker attachments of lateral branching, thinner weaker brances, over sprouting of lateral branches creating more deadwood, and the natural die back of those over abundant branches being out of sync with the trees optimal structure for long term integrity. Food for thought when doing tree work!
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 7 жыл бұрын
Yep....I know what I was doing wasnt very good for the tree...at all....but my other option was cut them down...and I wasnt quite ready to sacrifice them yet....my intent was to have the trees to concentrate energy toward upward growth...thus hopefully raising the canopy...but they are very close together...eventually one of them is going to have to go...it's also very close to my septic field ...thanks for the comment...good to have someone with arborvitae knowledge on the channel!

Look at the customer service you get with a STIHL....they have strict protocols for their dealers for customer service and support....husky....not so much...I too have a 460 Husky and like it very much ......however I find STIHL has better string trimmers, and various small engine stuff like that.....my husky didnt hold up like the STIHL...plus...take ur old STIHL to the dealer...and you can trade it in on new STIHL stuff....cant do that with a husky....THERE'S A REASON THEY DONT SELL STIHL IN THE BIG BOX STORE.......THE PERSONAL TOUCH THAT COMES FROM A SMALL BUSINESS

You nailed that reply , used to run a forest contacting business 5 of us 2 with Huskies 3 with Stihls 85 to 100cc , the Stihls out lived the Huskies every time they also sounded better had less vibration and basically were a much smoother unit than the Husky . But every time the Huskie Boys would go back and buy another Husky ... suppose that's just loyalty . Run a lawn care business these days and am still using Stihl products ....... suppose that's just common sense ! Like where your at ! Subbed

The longer is only two more feet isn't that much more though, (he states it's "about 8 feet", but its really 9.2, the longer "pro" versions are is 11.6). Two feet for three hundred is rough to justify.
