Nice 881 congrats, you're going to have fun. I'm pretty picky about who I'd let grind on my cylinder. Number 1 choice would be Bobby walker from walkers saw shop. They would stand behind there work, and our a stihl dealer, and the walkers have been building race saws and karts for a long time.. have fun keep the chain sharp and hoggy, keep big chips flyin..

I don't have any experience with the 881 yet, but the 880 is there when needed (luckily not too often outside of removing huge flared stumps prior to grinding), and that replaced an 088 from long ago. I've never climbed with any of those, and I hope I never do, although I've seen it done. It's one of those things where it's great to pull out for a couple cuts and the put away before the rest of the guys notice how tired you're getting. I really do think that it's the best milling saw you can have, because while others can do it for a short time, this will go all day and not be overworked on an Alaskan saw mill. There are 5 and 6 foot bars that this will pull, still without issue, especially with a skip tooth chain. There's even longer bars if you have a dual powerhead setup for milling.
@em4703
@em4703 Жыл бұрын
Like anything, you use it often enough you get used to it. The only difference it will make is that all your other saws will feel "weirdly light".
@Femalelumberjack
@Femalelumberjack Жыл бұрын
Yes it’s definitely a perfect milling saw!
@happycamper6352
@happycamper6352 Жыл бұрын
@@em4703 YES! Most of my cutting other than cuts with a top handle are done with a 500i. It really does feel like a featherweight after even just 15 minutes with an 880. I never got around to getting a 90cc saw because of how well smaller saws do with just about everything around here, and if the 500 can't do it, the 90cc saws really aren't much better, so that's why the huge thing is waiting in the truck.

@@happycamper6352 500i shyyt very much problem injector…etc. I have Stihl 880 this better and bigger stronger but eat more fuel
@happycamper6352
@happycamper6352 Жыл бұрын
@@luxbeci2 I've been favoring a 500i for well over a year now and I've had zero problems with the saw despite us using it multiple hours per day. We're not even the best at remembering to do basic maintenance, and yet it still cuts like new. We go through sprockets and also have to sharpen the chains regularly like any other saw, but the power head has been perfect otherwise. You can call it "shyyt" if you want, but our experience is that it has been consistently reliable and strong to the point where we think about the tool less and the job more, which is the goal for any gear.

This will probably get interesting, I don’t know how many people build 881s. I would think you can up the compression and run race gas, and get the ports machined larger. A high flow muffler will also help, and maybe a high flow air filter. There might be some weird things done to it to get the rpm up because more rpm is like free horsepower.

You might be able to put a turbo on it as well, use the bar oil to lubricate the turbo. Then just get your piping done, you would probably leave the compression stock so you could still use the factory pull starter.

My mom loves chickens so our garage is a big stable so I can’t place my saw there (unless I want it covered in chicken sh1t) so I just put it on my room together with my supply box where my oils are in so my room smells very good, I love the smell of bar&chain oil in the morning 😂 Also you can use a big saw for small trees but not a small saw for big trees so if I’d have the money I’ll buy an 881 to cut 5cm trees 😂

@@bumpin8833 That's exactly what it is here (West Virginia, USA). 90 days commercial with no way to change that. Now if you're a Joe Homeowner residential user, then yes, 1 year without the 6-pack, or 2 years with the 6-pack of the gray stuff (ultra). I'm not real sure how many residential buyers would actually by an 881 around here though. It's usually only a commercial saw.

@@happycamper6352 If a person is doing milling for personal use is it residential or commercial use? mostly it comes down to what is said and whether one pays for out of a personal account or business account.
