Stihl MS192T Chainsaw Low On Power

A customer walked in with a Stihl MS192T complaining the saw felt a little low on power. Sure its getting a little older but lets look at why this one just wasn't quite up to par. #smallenginerepair

You asked about your run times; I have not noticed anything too long winded. This one of about 10 minutes was nice, but plus or minus 3 or 4 would probably no be too brief or too taxing. Good job!

There are directions for pulling the plug wire boot off right there on the boot-you use a scrench in the slot.

The instructions are on the boot? Huh, never noticed. There are a lot of plug boot designs from many manufacturers that seem over complicated. The pliers worked fine

@@TheGreasyShopRag You literally see Stihl-Heads paying $1,500 or more for an used top handle that was like $650ish when in production like they got the deal of the Century. It's a common 35.5cc saw if I remember correctly. There's not enough displacement for the money.

@@williambray4134 Just checked my stash. Out of 65 saws only one is a Stihl top handle. 020T complete but the muffler is falling off. Not sure yet if its scored.

Interested in the way you approach your inspections. Look for obvious first then work your way in.

@@TheGreasyShopRag years ago I was a cashier. They had us study the real money. I use that towards everything. Learn what and how it’s supposed to be. Thanks for running them at the end.

What carb rebuild kits do you use?

OEM walbro and zama kits when available. When not available I use whatever our parts department can source. Sometimes we need to buy kits directly from a stihl dealer.

Sweet little saw. What do you use in your US cleaner? What I used last time that I thought would work turned my carb a darker gray.

I usually put a carb in a mason jar with fuel in it. Gas is cheaper per gallon than most cleaners and works about as well.

Something can be said for the Poulan 25 series. So much easier to work on, even modern top handle saws.

Lately I've decided that its less about difficulty and more about cleanliness. Yes those old Poulans are (were) easier.

Thanks for you feedback. My employer allows me to hang a camera over the bench during the day and isn't paying me to "make videos" on his dime so we do the best with what we get. Thanks for watching!

A good tip to zoom in on a video when you're using a computer is to hold down the windows key and press the + key to zoom in...give it a shot!
