I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzfaq.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

Thanks for the demonstration. I own a few Stihls and a couple others but was thinking of adding the Husky 450 to the stable. I replayed the video and timed each of the first 6 cuts. The Stihl averaged 7.81 sec and the Husky 6.18 so that is 20% quicker and in my book fairly significant on that test. I think both are good choices and I know there are those who swear by either brand but I now have even more confidence to add the 450.

I own both of those saws. I've cut a lot more with the Husky and it's served me extremely well. The Stihl bogs a lot less though and seems to power through at higher speed. Stihl is harder to start and harder to keep running but I really could not choose one over the other. They are both amazing saws. I also bought a Remington Outlaw.... lasted about 6 hours in the conditions I put my saws through. Bottom line, Stihl and Husqvarna are just a matter of preference, there is NO clear winner.

I guess you probably already bought a new saw but I would consider the Echo 590. That is the best in the "farm and ranch" class of saws I believe and its only $399 new. Shop here has refurbished ones for $300. I am not an Echo fanboy or anything either I prefer Stihl but I own Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo, Makita. I prefer my pro saws but if I was only going to get a farm and ranch tier saw it would be the Echo or I would just buy a used pro saw. I only paid $50 for my Stihl 026pro and no way would I take any farm saw over that. Hell I only paid $400 for my Husqvarna 372xp that is like a $900 saw and $250 for my Makita DCS6421, $450 for my Stihl MS440 any of those are as cheap or cheaper then any of the farm saws and all run circles around them they were all in great condition used saws and all pro saws.

I've used my Stihl for 13 years for heating my house and yard work=10 cords per year. It just quit for the very first time and will take it to my local dealer for repair. In the mean time, I am shopping for a second saw for a number of reasons---1) never be down, 2) some time one needs to rescue your saw, as in a pinch. 3) I'm taking apart a 300 yr old red oak, blow down, and need the 20 in bar. So, after studying for a week,what I like of the Husqy is 1)that the tank caps wont leak if not seated right, 2) um, that's about all. What I don't like is 1) it's a bit louder, 2) shut off bar was not wide, 3) the Stihl is heavier to do the cut with, 4) what he said==''PERPARSON1 year ago +Shayne1973 as a stihl husqvarna and jonsered mechanic i can tell you the professional stihls lasts much much much more than XP husqvarnas'''--- so, I'll go with what I know best, the Stihl. I used to talk to pulp cutters in N Michigan. They preferred Jonsareds at the time because they could get 1 1/2 cord per tank of gas compared to the 1 cord per tank from the Stihl. They said it was all about RPM and the type chain they used. I would assume the same is true of the Husky. Another factor is the gas oil mix and how much oil is used. I used to run Amsoil at 100:1 with 110 octane avgas and knew guys who competed with their saws that ran 200:1. Bottom line, the faster you can get your saw to run the faster it cuts.

Just a suggestion, always let your equipment, ESPECIALLY chainsaws, warm up before putting them under load. That Husky is rippin' it! A full second faster--both ways. Start adding that up (60 pieces of wood=a minute) it turns into hours. I burned up my Husky after 15 years and tried to rebuild it, but it wasn't feasible. The guy at the shop couldn't believe it until he looked at the year on the plate. Both are great saws, but the Husky runs higher RPM and will get you in/out quicker. I run a Timberwolf and it's a decent saw too. It basically comes down to chain...keep it sharp and your tip up!

Sos, I went to my local Lowe’s today, and they have a new Husqvarna display, and hang the saws off some heavy duty brackets, with a kind of gray plastic thing, attached to the saw bar. They are pre assembled, no box, and NO Scabbard! They had them all padlocked/ wired together, and the salesman let me compare the 450 Rancher, to the 455 Rancher, and the 545 Mark II. The 545 Mark II is the real deal, but I was surprised by its weight and less balanced feel, compared to the 450? The thing that I cant quite get over, is the one bar nut deal, on the 450. I know it has two guide pins, but just one bar nut/ stud? I still liked it. A tough call. Stay sharp, and keep yer chains sharp! Safety ain’t funny bidness! Thats my new trademarked closing line! @georgedavall94492 жыл бұрын
Echo is a POS! Just kidding, they are a fine saw, but it is hard to find anyone in my area to work on them. Stihl has the market dominated. That’s the main reason anyone should consider Stihl. They look a little prettier, but hell, its a chainsaw guys, who cares? I guess its why we have the Ford/Chevy thing that has been going on forever. Pay the money and get a Stihl with a good dealer, or get a Husqvarna, or Echo, and take a chance on getting warranty work done? I considered getting a MS261 recently, but the dealer made sure to tell me, its a ‘Pro saw,’ and Stihl only covers it for 90 days, even for a land owner like myself. That is unbelievable! I've ran a 271. The one I ran cut quite a bit faster than this one.
@jimmystractors14277 жыл бұрын
its no secret, the ms271 with a 20 inch bar is a bit of a dog. iv read it and heard it many times. but slap a 16 or 18 inch bar on her and watch it come to life! either way, theyre both good mid range saws. both will serve their owners well and for many years if taken care of.

If the Husky cut quicker, did it have the same type of chain as the Stihl? My 271 came with a semi-chisel not a full chisel profile.
@rayjs19635 жыл бұрын
fastest I got with a stop watch for the stihl was 6.35....fastest with the husky was 4.84

That Husky can move some wood.
@seeul8rwaynekerr7 жыл бұрын
the husky has a decompressor included and a better carb with a priming bulb. husky for the win here. maybe a better test is against the ms260 which is a similarly equipped stihl.

1970 olds442 well thankyou for the insult :) included for comparison, not because I needed one.

Arent stihls marked right on the side where screws go. I adjust all mine with no problems. Best advice is go to the PDF repair manual and find settings. Ive had dealers throw out numbers that were wrong on a dolmar 6100. They said oh 2&1/2 low and 2&3/4 high. Saw ran like Sh%$ looked it up on Dolmar/makita 6100 carbs settings are low 1&1/2 from ccw high 2&1/2 saw was . The 50cc 5105 makita ea5000p and maruyama are low and high both 1&1/2 CCW from seat. Then adjust idle when saw is warm

Huskys have higher chainspeed lower torq stihl has the torq with a lower chainspeed thats why i mill softwood with a husky and hardwood with my stihl

I have run both the husqvarna starts easier, runs harder, sounds better, and even most of the time cost about the same if not less.

That's not a big enough log for the power difference between those two saws to shine. Also, the chain used makes an even bigger difference than the engines. If one has semi-chisel and the other a chisel chain, then it would take a LOT of power to overcome the slower semi-chisel chain.
@Hustler_state5 жыл бұрын
You sir are correct .. chains make a HUGE difference. Unaddrsssed in video

I've had better luck with huskys than stihl past few years. Every stihl I've ever used in the summer when it's hot are a pita to restart. Huskys just feel like a better put together saw to me. All personal preference in most cases.

Does full chisel cut better than semi? I'm a newbie and just bought a 271 farm boss and it came with a yellow chain but idk if it's semi or full chisel
@genebonjour55453 жыл бұрын
Still cuts slower but garentee it last longer , easier for parts and service. Holds better price if sold used
@robertclifford1099 Жыл бұрын
the older stihls held up better, not the newer ones

Husqvarna for life they are the best made saw in the world I own a ton of them love them all
@g.d.76293 жыл бұрын
Most of my saws now are autotune so no need all my reg saws run great. If you are looking at Efco mt5200 Id take off the 20 oz converter and put a efco 152 tin can muffler. MT 5200 DOES weigh 12.8lbs its not a miss print but power is exceptional. 1lb 4ozes is too much on muffler.

i would say go for the closest distributor you have from your house. If you have to change some parts it will be simplest option. Both are good saws. I have a stihl ms 250 and i'm in love with it. just saying

I gotta say this wwhen I heard about 10 pulls to start I said thats the stihl!!! Was right too. Wont get too revved up husky may blow
@mainelytrees46666 жыл бұрын
Not close, the factory edge on the husqvarna is way better, but I always sharpen them more from the gate anyway to make them perfect, I think it has more to do with the ergonomics of the bar and chain than anything, measure the thickness with an accurate scale.

As soon as you see a single bar nut on the husky, you know its chincy

With that 4 year warranty you'll need it for that Husqvarna
@chevyon37s6 жыл бұрын
With the Husqvarna you'll need that extra warranty though..... Both great saws but from what I've seen lately the Husqvarna quality has been going down hill, seen scored cylinders on a few different saws, string trimmers, and blowers. And they both would cut better with a better and finely sharpened chains.
