We are not running trains yet, but there is a lot of work going on at the J&L Narrow Gauge as we expand our trackage to improve operations and lengthen the ride.

Having run an air museum for many years I commend your efforts. Hoping you have a master plan for all these tracks, as well as a good pool of volunteers. Keep up the great work!
@YoungstownSteelHeritage4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes there is a master plan that occasionally is revised as opportunities arise. For example, the old master plan did not include the boxcars until CSX donated them and we had to find a use for them.
@hiddenhistoryny1294 жыл бұрын
Yes our biggest problem was an abundance of riches with donated aircraft and "opportunities" that would arise and suck up lots of space. Next time I'm out that way I have to come see your site, ive been following for a while now.

Quarantine has made me discover your channel, and I love it! The first video I saw was the delivery of 58. I was able to watch the the 58 go from paperweight to locomotive all at once! Fantastic work. I wish you weren't 5 1/2 hours from me or I would come volunteer. After I finish working on pipe organs...

A nice sized model railroad to play with during this virus mess! Have fun.

Rick, glad to know you are wary of the virus but proceding with sensible improvement plans. Being narrow gauge, you have some wonderful opportunities to compress your curves. Thanks for carrying the flag!

What is the name of the other museum on the other side of town you mentioned that may get the hot metal car? Also there are a lot of folks who will watch vids from far away who will never be able to come to the museum in person. You should do a walk around video tour of each of the museum features and update them when new equipment comes in or when things get moved or updated. If you make more content for KZfaq, you can boost your subscribers and maybe make a little cash flow for the museum. If you set up a patreon account, you can ask people to contribute to the museum at the end of each video. If you got 5000 people contributing a dollar a month to the museum, that would bring in $60,000 a year!

Good ideas! The other museum is the Marter Yard Railroad Museum operated by the Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association. I get too busy doing stuff to remember to film videos but you are right, I need to do more. I was just looking at the analytics last night and noticed a huge jump in channel views and subscriptions over the past month, no doubt caused by more people being at home and on the computer. I never really realized just how many people enjoy watching what we are doing here in Youngstown, and I must say that I am quite humbled by all the interest. Thanks to you all. I appreciate it more than you will ever know!

Here in New Zealand, our national Rail system runs on Narrow Gauge (3’6”), but your narrow gauge appears to be narrower than that. What is the gauge? Sorry if you have answered this before, but this is the first of your videos to appear on my feed.
@YoungstownSteelHeritage4 жыл бұрын
Our railroad is 24" gauge. in the US 36" gauge is much more common.

How is it that your tank engines needs a tender? (I just discovered your channel, so you may have already answered that question in a video I have not seen yet.)
@YoungstownSteelHeritage4 жыл бұрын
Many of the narrow gauge tank locomotives, including the J&L engines had tenders. Usually they were homebuilt and carried a bin full of coal, no water. There is no coal storage space on 58 so we do need that tender being there.
@thomaslevy21194 жыл бұрын
@@YoungstownSteelHeritage One of your other older videos I saw had some historic photos of the engine. It showed the engine in service without a tender. I suppose the engine could not carry enough coal in a small bin that would be behind the cab to run very long without refueling. So a tender was added and the original coal bin removed?

THANK YOU...for sharing. Any news on the SDP-45 or did we just threw our money away?

Once we get some of this narrow gauge work out of the way then we will switch gears and focus on the 6670 again. Negotiating on a destination for it currently where it could go inside for restoration but nothing to make public yet.

Next video you should have the new track bed dug out. Are you going to get the diesel engine up and running
@YoungstownSteelHeritage4 жыл бұрын
If I remember I may film the process of digging out the roadbed.
