This was quite a windy day with a bit of sun and rain. I used two lures for most of the day. The fishing was amazing. And I got some great footage. Oh on the end screens I got it a bit wrong, there is a bit of overlapping going on. So please don't give me a thumbs down for that. Thank you.

Interesting video as always Shaun. Really important advice about eye protection. In the gusty swirling wind here today, which was constantly changing direction, it was comforting to have glasses, a cap, and a hood. Barbless hooks which you use also give you a better chance in a worst-case scenario. As for the number of dropped fish, a mystery. However, these unexplained mysteries keep us questioning, and that's what helps to make fly fishing so addictive.:)

Well David when I mention glasses I do think of you and a comment in previous video. As I said at end of video I will work out why fish come off like they were. I had a theory. So a good friend of mine is a fishery manager with a lot of knowledge. And he has confirmed to me what it is. I was well chuffed as I had worked this out. It will be in next video. Fresh Stocked fish. Now we had a stock put in as wales was going into lock down. Softer mouth which will harden with time. So ok no longer a mystery. But the fish still are. Take care mate.

Another informative video with lots of good pointers. I like the shorter tippet set up as I find casting long tippets to be quite difficult. Looking forward to trying it out.

Hi David, thanks so much. The long tippet thing is an anglers myth I believe, and I will over time show people that this is so. I have caught fish with 1' of tippet. Have you ever seen a fish spooked by a reed floating on the surface. That could be your fly line. And why would a fish try to eat a float. Crack on mate shorten that tippet and good fishing. I will do this very soon on a video.

Hi David, thanks so much for the thank you card. I fished Sunday no filming day off. The fishing was really difficult, but did manage 6 fish. Three of them was on the small blue and black fly. The water was flat and the odd fish gently breaking the surface. So I know a few fish are cruising 2/3' down. Once I have watched the water a bit you may find more in one area. Put this fly out and keep contact with fly by very slow figure eight. Or even static .This fly sinks very slow. When there is more fish around and moving a bit quicker you can pick the pace up. But that is more likely summer months.

Its funny that, as I was telling Di today that it was this time last year we had those big fish. The fishing today was really tough, dead flat water all day. Late afternoon change fly to one that I had tied last night . one each for me and Di. I had five and Di had one. The fishing on the day of this video was unreal, I must have lost about 25 plus fish and netted about half that. Yes it can look impressive when you cram a whole day into 15 min. Take care mate. c u soon. Shaun.

I can't remember the video. But did I really say that, 10lb Salmon. They are the hardest still water trout I have experienced. But then I have not fished every water. I think its down to the water quality and amount of oxygen in this water, Oh and lots of natural food. Great to hear from you Paul and thanks for the comment. Shaun.

Thank you so much Stuart, I do remember that day. It was great even though they were mainly stock fish. Now here we are again. Winter, but I think this winter could turn out to be a bit different, what with climate change. We will have to tweak our fishing as we go. Can we ever be ready. Fishing for so many years has been pretty predictable. I have already noticed the change. But here is looking to some crazy wild weather to fish this winter. Thanks for the comment Stuart. Shaun.

Hi Martin, hope you had a good Xmas. I was not sure what the pitsford pea was. As I have all my own flies I never go online to see whats out there. However I have looked and was impressed. I love the look of Iain Barr's patterns. His palmered Pitsford Pea. Is amazing as it looks very much the same as my Muskin. And it works very well. And his lure I like as it is also palmered. Spot on Martin. Keep safe mate. Shaun.

Well you only see a small amount of what this fly can do. You are one of seven people to have this fly. This fly works well when a bit choppy and a bit of cloud. But do try it other times so we can find out more about it. We fish it at all speeds down to really slow or even static. I have worked on this lure for years, you would hardly notice much difference in the original but the fish do. Call it what you like. I my self have cut the top of a tree down to get this fly back. Good luck Bob.

@@shaunfishes101 Hi Shaun Just to let you know that I fished Wimbleball trout fishery on Tuesday. I thought that I would start with your Coral fly. It certainly works, I had my 5 trout all on your fly, also many pulls, but I wasn’t quick enough with lifting the rod. All in all I must say a fantastic fly that catches trout. My next visit to wimbleball I will use your fly and see if I get the same results. Thank you for sending me this fly, much appreciated. Bye the way, I haven’t tried the sunburst yet, so fingers crossed. Again Shaun, many thanks. Bob.

This time of year, getting into a spot where the wind is blowing into you or ideally off your non casting arm into a bank is money. As for tippet length, I dont think it matters much if it is windy and you are retrieving quite quickly, more important in a flat calm with slower retrieves imo
@shaunfishes101
@shaunfishes101 3 жыл бұрын
Hi OLDGOLD, thanks for watching and comment. The tippet length was more for safety. I will be doing a video on presentation soon. Not saying what I do is the way to go, but its more options, and more options means more fish. Take care Mate. Shaun.
@oldgold5848
@oldgold5848 3 жыл бұрын
@@shaunfishes101 indeed, shorter tippet in the wind is a great idea, fish not as fussy when it is choppy as well. As you say about tippet, sometimes we claim superhuman prowess for trout eyesight and intellect, and yet most of us have seen trout rise to indicators and the end of a fly line.
@garydunne1692

Allo Sean great vid but help me out please I know you're streaming but are you using braid as a tippet? I can see how that would work for casting in wind and pulling your flies down quick but no mono or flouri on the end even a small piece? Thanks
@shaunfishes101
@shaunfishes101 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, yes I do use tippet. Any thing from 2' to 6'. I have gone down to 1' and caught fish. I like to use the 5' braids as they give me more options without having to purchase multiple lines. Such as sink tips, and they are quick to change. I have talked a bit about braids in previous videos and will cover braids a bit more on the next few videos. Thanks for the comment Gary. Take care. Shaun.

@@shaunfishes101 thanks Sean I have thought about myself actually but never tried it thinking it might be a bit clumsy but it's sinking and definitely saves an intermediate. Will definitely give it a go and will watch more of your vids to check it out . Great stuff mate thanks 👍
@shaunfishes101
@shaunfishes101 3 жыл бұрын
@@garydunne1692 Hi Gary, they don't replace intermediate or sinking lines. If you want to fish say a lure at a certain depth at pace then intermediate lines are great or sinking lines if deeper. Braids will only fish at a certain depth at moderate speeds to slow. But in winter they are great or if you like me use expensive tippet, then you only need half the norm. As my tippet is about 5' long.

Hi James, nice to hear from you after all this time. Its not so much a braid connection, but a Tapered Braid leader. The ones I have been using are Snowbee. And mainly the intermediate. They are loop to loop connection. When you ask about breaking strain do you mean tippet. If so it varies. But mainly between 7lb and 5lb. If this is not what your on about, Try again. Shaun.
