Last night I was almost in tears because I was so confused. Videos from very respectable bead Connoisseurs, I couldn't even grasp the concept !! At present square stitch is the main bead weaving technique that I use for my bead woven ‘wall art’ panels. I end a thread and start a new thread in pretty much the same way you demonstrated, but for extra security I also apply a few half-hitch knots. These knots are attached to the thread passing through the beads (not the bridge threads) and in this way each knot is gently tugged into the bead.

This was one of the first stitches I learned. I prefer it over many. I love craw and other craw variations. Kate McKinnon got me into herringbone and I love it now. But if you have good tension, you don’t need to go back through each row. I do it for the first few and then every 5-10 rows after. The only drawback is you have to really work to embellish the edge, but it always gives you a super straight edge, especially if using Japanese beads.
