Excellent. It's always good to discover Chess lessons are accessible to non-native speakers

Ironically, Morphy often played at parlors in a time where home telephones were uncommon and parlor public telephones were widely used. So his games actually probably were interrupted occasionally by the sound of phones ringing.

Did Ben say, "Что?" (pronounced "Shto?") at 6:23? That's Russian for "What?" Does Ben speak Russian? Or, is that just a Russian word he knows? I know he lived in Belgium for a while, a country that can't decide whether their national language is Dutch, French or German; so, perhaps he speaks a lot of different languages. I don't know. But, Russian seems unlikely.

He knows chess terminology (all pieces, moving, notation, etc, you can see this easily if you watch him stream as he sometimes uses those randomly) and some basic stuff, I believe, from visits to Russia because of chess.

6:23 Ben actually speaks Russian (or some of the many Balkanic languages)! Very suspicious

Okay, honest question: Why are they called "King Pawns" if they are on the Queen's side of the board?? Am I missing something here?
@alexandermiller44386 жыл бұрын
The openings are king pawn openings. The doubled pawns are not king pawns.

34:55 after e6, I'm surprised Qxa4!! wasn't mentioned

10:11 black has a forced checkmate after 1.... Bxf3+ 2. Kf1 Rg2 and black is threatening 2 mates. 3.......Rxh2 and Rh1# and 3..... Rxf2+ 4. Kg1 Rg2+ 5. Kh1 Rg3# (if 5. Kf1 Rg1#). White cannot defend against both. Saw this game on agad's channel. Twice. Seems like everyone is talking about this game.

I think, black can play Bf2 after Rd1 and the Queen also have to defend with Qf1.
@yahya89able6 жыл бұрын
34:56 missed a good tactic , Qxa4 Qxa4 , Rxb2+ Ka1, Rxc2+ Kb1, Rb2+ Ka1, Rb3+ Rc3, Bxc3 # , And if not queen takes and exf7+ kg8 , Qxg5 Rxb2 + and the same technique.

Even the most dimmided individual, with an advanced degree in hyperbolic topology? He uses this line quite often and I don't really get what he's saying. Can someone help me? Regards from Germany!

Dimwitted heißt "dämlich". Hyperbolische Topologie ist die Forschung hyperbolischer, geometrischer Figuren. Das hat einfach keine feste Bedeutung... es wurde nur bei den Simpsons zitiert
@ganjalfthegreen15748 жыл бұрын
"Selbst die dämlichste Person mit einem hohen akademischen Abschluss in hyperbolischer Topologie müsste zustimmen, dass..." wäre die Übersetzung.
