I just sold my late husband's motorcycle trailer so I'm headed to Aldi for can goods tomorrow. Put aside $200 just for stock up. Then back to the upick farm for more corn, tomatoes and green beans to can. My group helped harvest the potatoes in the garden and we had a windfall harvest of red and white. Garlic drying along with the onions. Planting more beans, peas and beets next. Love having all this for our prep group.

Yep. I would just wash them out and dry them really really well. Personally I'd probably still put the contents in either mylar or a foodsaver bag, but I don't think it's strictly necessary. Just make sure you keep the popcorn tins somewhere dry and inspect every few months to make sure they aren't showing signs of rust on the outside.

One part baking soda and two parts cream of tartar equals baking powder. Baking powder has a limited shelf life. Baking soda and cream of tartar keep for nearly ever. Also Azure has pretty good prices on Gamma lids.

I just got a couple more to drill holes in for my garden plants that are outgrowing their small containers, the poor things! @@susantelchik5986 I have a few gamma Lids and they are not airtight. I know this because I put flour in a bucket with a gamma Lid. I had to move the bucket. It was closed and still leaked flour. Apparently, there is supposed to be gasket rings inside the lids but some stores sell the lids that do not have the gasket rings. So not all bucket lids are airtight. Some leak. Gamma Lids are 2 pieces so that you can easily use the item stored. Some of the Other lids have a locking system with a pull tab for more long term storage. Some of the lids are cheap and easily pop on and off. It is like comparing apples to oranges. Tractor Supply has the cheap easy on and easy off lids. Home Depot has the locking tab lids. Careful when using baking soda for brushing teeth..it is very abrasive and will remove your tooth enamel. A few times yes but not daily. I make my own tooth powder with a bit of Neem powder, Calcium Carbonate, small amount of powder charcoal, maybe bentonite and/or Kaolin clay powder, clove/cinnamon powder, maybe ground dry mint leaves, stevia or xylitol, for good mouth Ph, can sweeten the mix.

I have realized that I went over board on some things in the past. I have more than a year of bacon, pork chops and ground beef in the main freezer. I need to use some of it up before September so I have to come up with meals using those 3 meats for anout the next 6 weeks. I only have 2 chicken wing packs, 2 whole chickens and some steak to mix it up a little. I decided to leave the assorted roasts and hams for winter. Y'all can freeze tortillas but you need to remove them from the package as they defrost or they get soggy. I am using those up right now because I got plenty for free so I froze them. I need some seasonings and to replace cooking oil that I used for this months Grocery stock up.

@@fullofhope2222 I just take them out of the package and lay them on a cookie sheet to defrost. I turn them over to dry the other side then put them in a gallon Ziploc bag. It does not cost extra and does not waste paper towels.

The peaches in Illinois are very, very expensive due to a freeze in December with many growers only getting 10 - 20 percent of their crop. First pick peaches this year are going for $80.00 to $100.00 per bushel. Needless to say I will be getting my peaches at Aldi or Walmart.

That is an awesome haul for the money! You must be so happy, I don't know why, but up here in Canada our Walmart's don't carry buckets, or at least, I haven't seen any. I get mine from Home Depot and honestly can't remember how much they are. Also yes, with the lima beans. I found only one store that sells canned ones and only one other store that sells dry ones (DISGUSTINGLY EXPENSIVE!!!) so I broke down bought a bunch and canned enough to last us until (probably the Messiah comes around again which we hope is soon) OK enough. Love from Ontario!!!

Our WalMart has practically nothing as far as camping/prepping. If I go 30 miles away to the one in Watkins Glen (NY), it's like a whole different store. More camping type stuff, they carry Keystone meat, ours doesn't. I'd never even heard of Keystone canned meat until another prepper mentioned it. So I googled it and went to Watkins Glen and bought a few cans to try it before ordering cases of it, back in 2020.

I absolutely love canning meats but my Walmart has the Keystone ground beef and roast beef cheaper than I can can it right now when I factor in lids and electricity. I snagged 6 cans today and have 6 cans in my order for next week. It’s also going to save my time for other canning projects. If Keystone goes up in my area at all it won’t be a good deal, but until then I am going to build some stock.

The deli at our Walmart sells their food grade buckets (used) for $1 each...and they come with lids. They don't advertise them but if you just ask at the deli counter they will stick a $1 label on them so you can take it to the register. Also a lot of grocery stores that decorate cakes have them for free. Restaurants will sell them as well. I've gotten tons of them for free or at most $1 each.

I am able to get food grade buckets for free from a couple of big box bakeries, if I happen to go into the store when they've just emptied one. We don't have gamma seal lids here in Canadian stores, but I sometimes pick some up from Menards when I'm in the US. Do you ever make your own BBQ sauce? I live near the largest tomato growing area of Canada, so 'reject' boxes of tomatoes are always cheap. I make and can a lot of salsa and BBQ sauce, and marinara sauce. I go through lots of these each year.
