Cook might have only scored a few runs whilst Stokes was batting, but that's just as important. Him being there gave Stokes the freedom to play his shots. That is why he was such a great.

@@karthikj6975 fastest = speed, as in elapsed time taken from at wicket to reaching a 100 runs. So you come into bat and take 70 minutes to reach a century. Fewest deliveries faced is different, that is regarding strike rate. So for instance if you have a lot of spin bowling you could attain a 100 in faster time but actually face more deliveries. The record for fastest 100 runs scored does not necessarily equal fewest deliveries, in fact in the record books that's the case understand?

In this 2015 series, Stokes was making a comeback in the Test format after a dismal three consecutive test ducks vs India in 2014. His 2015 to 2017 form was unbelievable, especially at home.

The salient point for me is that Cook is on 103 not out when Stokes begins this innings.....when Stokes hits the stroke that takes him over 100, Cook is just 119.....a partnership of approximately 116, of which Cook's contribution is 16 ?

Very very similar to Botham and Tavare in the Old Trafford test in 1981, except Tavare didn't make a ton, but he stood there watching Botham as Cook watched Stokes.

P. Mid stokes is a better batter; flintoff was certainly a better bowler but Stokes' bowling is really improving at the moment.
