STOKESAY CASTLE: One of the best preserved fortified Medieval manor houses in England
In the picturesque Shropshire hills lies the 13th century fortified manor of Stokesay Castle. With it’s beautiful gatehouse and well preserved towers and main hall it is a great look into what life was like back at the time.
While on site you can take advantage of the free audio tour which goes into each room with great detail. You can also freely walk around the great halls, climb the towers and get some fantastic views from the top. There is also a little walled garden and dry moat walk to enjoy before visiting the neighboring church.
Access from the main car park to the courtyard is fairly good for all mobility types. However the old hall has a fair few steps and staircases. Many of which are narrow and uneven due to age. So be very careful when visiting.
The site also has a shop, toilets and a tea room.

I always wonder if I should do a voice over. During the pandemic I got addicted to videos of just walks. Like www.youtube.com/@Rambalac and I think I wanted to replicate them. They make for great background videos while working.

I've been an EH member for about 14 years now and visited hundreds of sites across the country and CADW in wales too and I can heartily say that Stokesay is probably my favourite. It's so enchanting, evocative and historically interesting. Thanks for posting!

Absolutely, I loved how it's still got a lot of the original charm. I always say that places with dangerous steps are always the best places to visit :)
