Here in Los Angeles we call it gentrification. In America its going on in every city in America where Blacks live.

Just for clarification, the white women near the beginning are misinformed, like so many are misinformed about Africville. Residents of Africville were not moved to Preston. Preston is a beautiful rural (mostly black) community and includes North and East Preston, Cherry Brook, Lake Loon, etc. It used to be much larger, and included Lake Echo, and even went all the way down to Woodside. But the land was slowly taken from black families. Shanny Dixon at 7:14 is correct about where the residents of Africville were moved to: Uniacke Square and Mulgrave Park.

A movie 3 part series brought me here. The last part being played tonight on BET TV. This part is on slaves being freed from America and brought to Nova Scotia. I'm going to check more of this topic for its a subject I have no knowledge of.

I don't usually comment on others posts, however, of the founding forefathers, none were associated with Underground Railroad. Sorry guys, but it's far better to get it right than to keep it wrong. Knowledge is key!

Thank you so much for a wonderful documentary! I learned so much, but also am deeply saddened by what people are capable of doing to each other. Such powerful lessons of history which 'belongs to everybody' ... such love and courage displayed! I am just 3 years as a Nova Scotian and as a lifelong learner, I so much appreciate this chance to learn about Africville. I love the church services! Blessings in Christ!!!

They torn the church down in the middle of the night because they know that your God is a sleeping God that is different from their God. They gave you that God to fool you, but Creator is different from what they make you believe. What make you think they will respect you their territory when they stole you from your motherland and nothing happened to them. Come together as a people and you create formidable God that will defend you. Create your security with your numbers and don't beg for peaceful coexistence because that is nonexistent and no group ever achieved recognition the same way you are pursuing justice. Form a community where you can sell and buy your good and services within and elect real political representatives within your community so you can challenge them in public and in private when they failed to represent your interests.

It seems that Gentrification only opportunity to the mind of a developer.Oppose the detrimental effect it leaves to the the people of the community. Both outcomes have negative and positive connotation to the community. One thing I know for certain is that everything evolves over time.

Africville was situated next to a garbage dump and when the city expropriated the land, bull-dozed them out in the middle of the night, they turned it into a park.
