I love both Kavita and Sathnam. I could sense Kavita getting upset when Sathnam was talking about the abuse he gets 😢

I instantly trusted him, believed him as intellectual, and I am completely new to the matter, I don‘t even know what ‚Empire‘ wholy means. I know it is referred to the British Empire of course, but they talk about ‚Empire‘ and ‚writing about Empire‘ like the british imperialism is kind of a hidden matter in Britain or at least that there is a lot more to the topic. I found it funny when he asked her about her experience as a woman of color writing about Empire and it got all awkward for a moment as she is the interviewer hahah he definitely had gotten comfortable and just did like he would do in a normal conversation. That shows she is a good interviewer and journalist. Keep on the good work. Illustration shouldn‘t be banned nowhere. All mankind should fight for transparency and openness to be the normalized culture everywhere.

empire has many definitions but i think one of the good ones is that when a nation is strong enough and has the means to establish multiple foreign locations or land that would sustain the nation itself like the roman empire that conquered the tunisia region and then egypt, to gain it's fertile land to sustain and grow the population of rome and italy how the russians used the siberia resources and fertile lands of kazakhistan/mongolia to feed it's population and ofc in case of the british that used north and south africa for it's agriculture and india for it's resources that were so rare in europe

There's no excuse for not knowing the History of your country. There are thousands of books in Libraries and Bookshops. But people don't read History, especially when it makes them look back to the eyes of the World.

I have to come out about the debate that I just watched where the comments were closed. I found the Israelis who talked to be in denial of reality. Sickening.

When you have done horrible things to others, your later thought is to cover up your bad behavior. The Empire building culture seems to have learned this would make the future easier to digest when the facts are much harder to find. The US government likes to 'classify' these things so facts can be buried. When I learned how the British empire started and how the empire were drug lords who went to war with China to push their product, it's an outrage. Just as the American empire has grown by murdering many indigenous tribes, and stealing lands/resources. Note: I've not yet read this book, but relating things I've had to learn later in life.

All people until recent modern times were atrocious, including the indigenous people. Being bad is a fundamental nature of people and only somewhat has been mollified with education and societal services. War and violence were just as prevelant amongst indigenous peoples as eurppeans.

@@rahuldahoob Indeed, I'd describe myself as progressive too, but this is clearly nonsense and just giving a free kick to exceptionalists.

In fact there were black people in Tudor England! 360 such people are recorded living here during the years 1500-1640. They came here owing to trade with Africa and none of them were slaves! One man, John Blanke, was a royal musician, a trumpeter at the courts of Henry VII and Henry VIII. One was silk weaver. Another a salvage diver. Yet another a circumnavigator sailing with Francis Drake. Then there was a merchant and some were servants. Not a matter of being “progressive “ just plain old facts!

@@mariewalmsley1187 Again, lies damn lies and statistics, I specifically mentioned the Henrys while you stretch it out to the 1640's! No doubt a few made it ashore (before presumably before being hung as devils in an era of paranoia and superstition), and well Drake sailed everywhere but they had no effect on Tudor society and trying to desperately make them relevant is frankly an embarrassing effect of post truth identity politics on ours.
