Metal detecting road trip!!!!! 🇬🇧 I visit the Neolithic landscape of the Marlborough Downs and set out to find The Polisher megalith - site of Stone Age man’s meticulous work to produce stone tools by hand. Then, it’s off to a dig with a bunch of friends.
Marvellous countryside, strewn with flint and chalk, where people have moved since our earliest human days here on these British isles. Close to Avebury and Stonehenge stone circles, and on the ancient Roman route from London to Bath, there’s no doubt there will be astounding artefacts to find here. But with one day to do it, what can I pull out of the Earth?!

Have I found any treasure? Well - I’ve really been putting in the time, and in my first year of detecting I have collected Roman artefacts, old gold, hammered coins and medieval finds. But the REAL treasure is in the stories each object tells about people and places. Sometimes it’s the mystery objects that I love best - cracking the code of time with plenty of help from my team of trusty subscribers!

The axe polisher megalith is amazing! Thanks for sharing with us. Besides metal detecting, I also very much enjoy woodcarving and the bowl and ridges of the megalith look remarkably like, albeit on a larger scale, the stones used for sharpening woodworking tools like gouges. Fascinating.

Hi Ellie, sounded like a wonderful trip. I especially liked seeing the axe polishing stone. I was surprised they were allowed to clear the trees brush around that particular megalith. You are really making the rounds and learning so much about the hobby. I remember as a young man finding spots where native Americans produced arrowheads. Obviously not as old as your site but still interesting to find. Thank you for taking us along on your adventure… John

It’s a pretty wild landscape, but still needs a little management. That was just dead gorse they’d cleared. It was an amazing stone, quite fascinating. Your arrowheads adventures sound awesome!

Yet another fun video.That must be the oldest whetstone in the country.Cartwheel pennies and twopennies were the first coins made by the use of a steam press,developed by,i think,Andrew Boulton,weight was one ounce and two ounces respectively.

Don't take sighting a Hare as a Omen🤣🤣🤣 doesn't work every time. Cartwheel penny a common find. As Good as it gets coinage from George 1,2 3 and William 3 don't survive well. Fascinating how Ice Age transported Big boulders around Good luck with Next dig😜🔝❤️

Loved that area. When in England last time, straight from Heathrow to Stonehenge, Avebury and a small pub with monoliths around it. Lovely area. Such history and great exploration in the foot steps of those early people
