My first attempt at carving letters and a symbol in a large piece of limestone. I'll show you the basic beginner steps to stone carving as I learned them. The results are simply spectacular.

This turned out so great! I kept seeing this in background shots and was wondering what it was all about. Such a wonderful way to give back to the community/church.

Beautiful piece of work Tom. And excellent idea to get someone else to move that big plinth piece.

Tom, I am over the top for this video! What a creative and thoughtful idea and what a great job you did on completing it. It really looks fantastic out there in front of your church. I am totally stoked about this project. How much would you charge me for a cool headstone for my grave? I would just need my name and stats plus maybe a carving of a mallet or a saw blade, so that everyone would know that I love wood working. I asked my wife if I could have a carving of Sofia Vergara on my stone. She said 'NO'. Can't have everything, right?

Sorry to hear about the headstone denial from your wife. The gall of some women. I think I'll need to carve my headstone first...not a horrible idea actually. I can also make a pine box out of reclaimed lumber.

Tom, I smell a several part video series coming up. You could show us how to find and select reclaimed lumber for the coffin as well as how to build several different coffin designs. (Dracula style, conventional style, farm house style and a modern contemporary style) You could give us advice on how to find hardware for the coffin at estate sales. You could give us pointers of how to find the granite slab for our headstone. You could show us how to purchase, sharpen and use the needed tools for carving the headstone. You could offer advice on how to get a bargain on the burial plot. Wow, this could be your defining masterpiece video series.

Now I just need a name for the show and a pitch for the History Channel.

That was cool! Did the glass blowing class and it was fun...as I get older (I'm 62)...I'm still finding skills and trades I wish I'd have explored. What inspired you to do the stonework?...very impressive!!

I do. They were not cheap and I plan to do another project -- just haven't gotten around to it. I think I'll hang on to them for now. Thanks.

Ok, ok….. If you keep putting me to shame with your absolutely endless skill demonstrations, I’m going to be forced to unsubscribe. To make us feel a tiny bit better you could at least mess up a project and then show how you corrected it. You lost me as soon as you made the large template (?) Did you make that at home or have Staples do it? Absolutely BEAUTIFUL addition to your church! …Joe in NJ, USA
