Stone toolshed as timeless mediterranean tiny home (25m2)

When Pascual Alberola and his partner went looking for a weekend house near their home in Valencia (Spain), they wanted to avoid the built-up Mediterranean coastline. While exploring a sheltered valley just an hour and a half south of their city, they stumbled upon a plot of land on a protected hillside zoned for agricultural use.
The land is covered in cherry trees, the views of the Mediterranean are spectacular and neighbors here are sparse, but the largest building they could legally build on their plot was an agricultural tool shed, a "casa de aperos". So they called on architects Enproyecto Arquitectura to create a shelter within the maximum permitted size of 25 square meters (269 square feet) and build them a tool shed as a home.
"El refugio en La Vall de Laguar" (the refuge in the Laguar Valley) is arguably one of the most stunning tool sheds ever built, but the small, stone structure doesn't call attention to itself. Its local stone walls- built in the "dry" method (without concrete)- mimic the stone-containing walls of the surrounding fields. Most of the windows, except for the large openings providing a view of the sea, are tiny. So from a distance, the home resembles yet another of the boulders dotting the mountainside.
Inside, the house takes a more modern turn with all white walls and black-painted steel girders. To maximize space, the architects lofted the bedroom though without using any support columns downstairs, creating the feeling of a "flying bedroom".
They also created a thicker lateral wall where they hid dozens of cabinets for "tools" large and small (cleaning and gardening equipment, table coverings, and all types of storage). The wall also houses closets, a fireplace/oven, and recessed windows used as reading alcoves.

That's the true spirit of Mediterranean housing! As our brothers in Spain, here in Crete, we also started renovating our old barns and tool sheds, specially since the crisis stroke us.

'its better for the prostrate' should be the mantra of tiny homes! i like the floating loft and i am fascinated by the loose stone exterior. all those cherry and olive trees must smell wonderful too!

The reason they built to this size specifically was because it was the largest sized home they were allowed. As they mention, this land was zoned for agriculture so permitting allowed for just a 25m2 tool shed. Though it's a good point about the cellar. They also were allowed 50m2 (538 sq ft) underground so that is the next phase of the project. Though it's being created using all natural light (from skylights) since it's supposed to be a cistern.

It was a spectacular interview And they hear him speak in Spanish and others in Colombia for a long time Who is Neat just to hear him speak.. I really had a great passion for us place.. I think it’s a great gift that I have to speak Spanish and I can hear it so beautifully when he explains everything it’s just really nice not exactly what you did in Spanish translation to English.. but it was nice that you didn’t do that for everyone else but for me it was nice to get to hear him speak about the kinds of rock they used in the way it was done just amazing what you get out of there words it has more gravity…

I love the bathroom. Perfect sized, tucked away under the stairs for a room rarely used, yet still has a full size shower. for a "shed" with few windows, they ones it does have are perfectly placed. Very nice work and very well thought out spaces.

Excellent video as always! I love looking at all the places people store things. Some people have never understood the luxury of having everything so close at hand because they've never lived in a small place. To say nothing of the sense of purpose and clarity that small efficient designs can impart. Thanks for the inspiration!
