I read Butchers Crossing and Stoner within a month of each other. A life long reader of classics and fiction. It is hard to believe this was the first I had ever heard of this wonderful author. Great discussion, I know I will revisit both of these master works in future years.

I had the good fortune of discovering Stoner last summer. John Williams had the most well written prose and most authentic voice that I'd read in a long time. Perhaps that's a reflection of the fact that Stoner is, in modern times, a rare character in literature, the reliable narator.

In my top ten books of all time. It’s shocking to me how many people haven’t even heard of it. Perfect profile of a pure introvert.

I just finished Stoner and Butcher's Crossing last week. I loved both, but actually preferred Butcher's Crossing.

Augustus and Stoner might be completely different settings and written in different styles, but in my opinion the protagonists are very similar in certain ways.

I also recommend Butchers crossing. Was my favorite by him

Ditto that. The descriptions in that book are unreal. Over Stoner, I identify with Will. (Augustus is also on my tbr. I’m going to try and beat you to it so I can watch the video when it comes out.)

Can you do a video on how you review books? I really love the way you review and talk about books. I'm thinking of making book review videos someday.

In terms of the things I look for in a book, I think I explored most of that process in my Annotations video. I mostly highlight extracts that I think are great, and, to keep the video focused, I try to choose 2-3 core themes to explore. In terms of how I film, I just use a DSLR camera with a Zoom H6 sitting on top for audio. I use Filmora to edit the video, but most of that process is just syncing audio and cutting out mistakes/gaps where I look for extracts. Some of my older videos I didn't even have a separate audio recorder, I just used a webcam's inbuilt microphone, but the quality was not too great. I think the most important thing for me is just using natural lighting, as I've recorded some videos at night and, even with a good camera, it still looks pretty shit.
