‘’I wish I had a career like him’’
‘’I wish I had a body like her’’
‘’I wish I had a house like them’’
Do you recognize such thoughts?
How about now, when you are scrolling down Facebook, seeing all those dream holidays, watching seemingly perfect relationships, or fabulous achievements.
Can you honestly do that without comparing at all?
It’s OK. We all compare ourselves to others, it’s normal, in fact, it’s human nature.
However, often this results in feeling bad or putting ourselves down.
The GREAT news is that you don’t have to feel bad or quit dreaming. No! On the contrary, it’s important to pursue your dreams!
So, what can you do? I’ll tell you …in this video!
Rachel Smets is a bestselling author, speaker, Lecturer International Business, and Trainer.

Same . Never compare what's outside with what's inside . Because there is a long story behind both . And discussing it on social media will probably make matters worse .

Know this is an old video but still so powerful and relevant!! I always say "we always want the opposite" and it's so true... whoever you are, whatever you have, whatever your situation, it seems UNIVERSAL that everyone wants what other's have. But you never truly know the struggles they have been through and have to GO through to be/have/do what they do. So yes this makes perfect sense!!

I found this TedTalk very inspiring because I have found myself comparing myself to others without realizing what they did in order to become what I see of them. I also enjoyed the diverse comments including the person who found this irritating while I felt inspired. I love the comment with humor: "I showed this talk to my cat and now she is a lion" which I have actually heard before and is very appropriate. Thank you @Rachel Smets for getting me thinking.

Having one of those days... i rent from my ex in her new house with her partner.. seeing them together sometimes and the way my ex does better now it sometimes gets to me. I allow myself to feel it and then move through it because i know what was sacrificed. I know who I am now its time to build my self again and again.

This certainly helped. But most often when I am comparing myself to others, I regret not doing what they did to reach their present. Or I regret not achieving my own dreams that I had set out for myself. Regret for my inactions kills me more than anything else.

I find this to be a simplistic way of looking at a complex subject. All the examples she gives are so silly: Envy for achievements without willingness to work hard. That's not where we need a Ted Talk. We need a Ted Talk on how to deal with the kind of envy you feel when you don't achieve half as much in two decades of committed, strategic effort as someone else in one decade of laid back effort. In reality there often isn't this "I have kids but you have adventure" kind of two sides of the coin. The question is how we go about feeling okay when all aspects are better. When you would actually swap. When you are not being lazy. When you've tried it all and it still doesn't work out.

Whatever happened to " imitation is the best form of flattery ?"
@RachelSmets
@RachelSmets 3 жыл бұрын
V. Dargain you can be inspired by someone which is very flattering but you still have to make it your own story, create your own path. Let’s say you’re inspired by an author, you can flatter him or her, and you can write a book too, it you won’t copy every word, you’ll create your own words with your own vibe to it. You’re always at your best when you’re giving your own energy in anything you do, whether you’re speaking, writing, creating videos, courses, books, webinars, presenting, etc.,,, Hope it makes sense.

Most true. The world is rough and mean. As Jordan Peterson said, "the world is against you . . . obviously." But as I told my own subscribers, many times the greatest enemy in life can be yourself. And you make yourself an enemy by comparision to others. If you make 80K a year and have 200K in the investment arenas you will feel badly if you have a friend who makes 250K and has a million in his. But you will feel good about yourself if you compare yourself to someone who makes 30K and has nothing in his accounts. But maybe that 250K person works 80 hours a week and hasn't had a vacation in ten years. The point is, your journey is yours. How much you want to work and gain to get the greatest benefits you can from your short time on earth---and most of those benefits, my friends, are not financial. Hope this helps someone----Charles
