Was gifted this watch by my father who bought it brand new. It’s beautiful all original and back to being worn daily with pride.

I bought my black-blue in 1976. It cost $95. It still looks great and runs superbly, as yours does. It has had a crystal replacement, but the rest is original. I also have a Seiko Turtle Diver from 1982. Another original Seiko beauty with only a black rubber band replacement (it broke last week!). With retirement, I no longer carry a watch. So the Bullhead goes to my son and the Turtle goes to my grandson. Thanks for the video.

Terrific review; this is how watch vids should be. Your knowledge and enthusiasm for these vintage Seiko 6138 Bullheads is inspiring and also infectious! I am lucky enough to have acquired four Seiko UFOs which I treasure but I'm now getting curious about these 0040s; your video was exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you very much, I have just hit subscribe to your channel.

Thank you Diddley for your kind words. I completely agree with you - there is something quite fascinating about vintage Seikos. The UFO is a nice piece as are many others.

Superb narrative of this tough monster. It took quite sometime researching this watch b4 I bought one, resold it bc its not beautiful enough n found another blue one which is beautiful enough to let it shine on my wrist. What u said on the above mentioned is very true. I wore it travelling on my e-bike, no problem, this classic watch seems to last forever, n it its not easy to find a nice one like yours, thank u

I have one exactly like yours, but I used the band for another watch. I bought it from my friend in 1978 or 1979. He had bought it new some years before that. It has some minor scratches on the glass. It works just fine though I have not worn it for over 40 years.

I'm not really a collector, but I do have a few nice watches... I purchased a brown/gold (orange second-sweep hand) Seiko SpeedTimer 6138-0071T back in the in 1970's shortly after I got out of college and started working as a computer programmer... brand new from a store called "Diamond Wholesale" that was located across the street from where I worked... so I would go there an browse around... this watch really grabbed my attention... don't remember what I paid for it, but since I didn't make much money back then, it must have been affordable. I use to wear it quite often... eventually the minute timer hand would not stay in place, so maybe I just stopped wearing it... I just got it repaired along with a few other watches that I have... hard to find decent watch repair shops near me these days, so I shipped off to a watch guy in Texas, and he just shipped a few of the watches back... can't wait to get it and wear it occasionally again ! I don't remember how to set the day & date, so hopefully it works as you described... also, I don't remember if you could actually wind it manually... I will have to try that. Another watch that I am having repaired is a Heuer Autavia Automatic Chronograph... inherited from my mother's cousin around 1990... I found out how valuable they are today, so I decided to have it fixed... the repair guy is waiting for parts, so it might be awhile ! I had to look up what an "anorak" is... I get 'anorakish" about most of my hobbies... HAH !

Great video, thanks for posting. The Bullhead is a fabulous watch. I know Citizen made one and Omega also but the 004x has real presence on the wrist. Hard not to notice something so damn tall after all

I notice ppl r looking at my bullhead wherever I go n some stop to ask about it. As mine is a beautiful blue like the above, many ppl ask me to sell it to them. I sell antiques n collectibles n real Buddha amulets on the street, n this watch is a good conversation starter. My advise is if u have a nice bullhead, don't sell it, or u'll regret it. Its not hard to find this watch, but a nice one don't come easy. I rather sell my pie-pan Omega than this bullhead.

Lovely piece. I've been interested in the Bullhead for a while but you really wettened my appetite. I have two vintage Seiko chronos: a 6130-6012 with a blue dial and a 6139-6002 silver "Pogue" - I wear them very often, and I love the styling of these 70's Seiko pieces - when I look at them it feels like like I'm taken back in time and put behind the wheel of a Datsun 240z cruising along the Tokyo Highway. Not a bad place to be. As for Seiko chronos I'd like to own there's quite a few. The 6139-6030, some example of the 7016 family and the 7017-6020 are at the top of the list, but after your review a Bullhead might have inched it's way up top as well.
@artl52
@artl52 5 жыл бұрын
wow 240snusit. Thanks for the memory trip. I remember all too well the Datsuns of the 1970s. I couldn't afford the 240z, but always wanted a 510. My girlfriend at the time had a 1200 hatchback auto. Couldn't get out of it's own way. At least a stick would have helped. Anyway, you mention some great pieces. I plan a few more reviews of vintage Seikos from my collection
@chaipod
@chaipod 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the 240z. When I was a teenager then, I used to go to this garage where they modify these Datsun cars for racing n the beautiful 240z's looks cool like the front view of a Porsche in the 70s.

@@artl52 I have 9 vintage Seiko chronograph and the new 50 jewels spring drive Jade Dragon. There are all keepers. Hoping to catch a panda soon. Anyway, the most underrated is the 7A48 Moon-face. I got one in pristine condition including the original bracelet for only 260 dollars. Incredible functions. Hacking sub second hand. And the glazed dial with the embossed roman numeral- it's a GS, my man!

Hi Arthur, Just go to youtube and google for 7A48 7000. The glaze on the dial is not inferior to my porcelain calatrava. Normally, i don't go for gold, but, this little touch of gold makes the whole thing stands. I have been playing with watches for more than 20 years, and i have played with many luxury ones, but, i only truly understand what a good watch is made of until i came to seiko/Gs.

i feel it's difficult to find a vintage seiko non-frankenwatch these days. i'm on the lookout for a 1971 bellmatic but i've got major apprehensions as to its authenticity.

yes, I agree Rampart. You need to find a trusted seller. I suggest Hub City Vintage, but it's tough to get one of his pieces b/c they sell out almost instantly when he posts them. Best bet is get on his mailing list and follow his instagram to be notified of upcoming sales. I have no connection to him other than being a satisfied customer.

Rolex did not invent a column wheel for their daytonas, they werent able to these days. They just bought the movements from valjoux (val.72) first for their handwinders and zenith later for their automatics.

I have a 6139 yellow pogue with black inner rotating bezel and have just won a brown 6138 bullhead on ebay. I also have a black & gold two register 6138 which goes fine but the crown stem is broken and falls out and a Silver (silvery cream) Kakume with the most amazing orange highlights and hands on which a local jeweler astonishingly butchered the movement. That was rather sad. I also have three citizen bullheads, an orange one, a salmon one (both of which don't proceed) and a Panda which is fully functional. I also have a beautiful green citizen chrono with orange hands. Stunning colour scheme and faceted case. This is also functional.

Greetings, I have several vintage Seiko's watches but I never buy a Seiko bullhead. So before buying one I look for information on different Seiko 6138-0040 sites, like fratello magazine and other sites doe to a lot people are selling on line flip flap or Frankenstein vintage watches. So, after studying and learning more about the Seiko bullhead variants and versions I buy a nice 1974 black bullhead. Black Seiko bullhead are all the same style as far I learn. I suggest friends to get information before buying watches on line, thanks.

I just want to add in something for this Seiko Bullhead. If the dial is very beautiful, its definitely an after market dial, n these days even some reputable companies use these after market dials because the watch 'brightens up' n looks beautiful. In my hometown, I come across beautiful fakes selling at 750usd. a piece n it looks like an NOS without the box. As a vintage seller, I was once offered 5 pcs at 200usd. a piece but I decline the offer. This watch is about 50 yrs old, I still prefer d older original dial, but its up to you,.... my 2 cents.
