***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 3 new videos every week! Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

This very nice to see a young person canning and showing so many people how to do it. Most people are a live today because they had to can their food because there was no electricity for freezers, coal and wood stoves, I learned from my mother 70 years ago and still can everything except chickens. You save money and it tastes better. I have 3 presto's and my favorite the all American 921 canner given to me 20 years ago by a old friend, GOD BLESS

Being completely new to canning (I haven't canned yet! I've just sent my first water canner back, unused, because I realised I need a pressure canner 🤦🏼‍♀️) I've been watching hundreds of hours of videos like this. They usually drag on with pointless chat, or I can't stand the voice (shallow, I know, but whilst watching long videos you do notice it!) and I usually end up switching off before the end. This video was so informative, no pointless chat, and I was shocked when it came to the end that over 20 minutes had passed! Thank you so much 🙏. I'll be spending a lot more time on your videos in future 😁

Sarah, you are a treasure! I saw my mother's pressure canner as a young child, blow up and hit the kitchen ceiling and have been terrified of them ever since. I only do water bath canning because of that experience. Your explanation was thorough and clear. Plain and simple, I have been canning since the mid 70's and if I can do it, so can you. My (then) wife was scared to death of the pressure canners as was her mom. She never got over it but she let me can all I needed to can. Veggies from the garden. Wild game, even fish and butchered meats, stews and pickles. Canning is fun and you know what you are eating. I just got a new 23 qt canner last season. It was my 4th canner. Here is a hint: when you buy a new canner, get 3-4 extra seals for that model. I have had to relegate 2 of my older canners to the soup line because the company has discontinued making the ones I need. If it can't seal, it is no longer a pressure canner.

Your instructional videos are some of the best on the homesteading internet! Earlier this year, I inherited my grandmother's All American canner and we figured out from the serial# that it was manufactured in 1947! She has been gone for almost 15 years and I'm honored to have it now. I don't know what I'll use it to can first...I need to get some supplies, but I love the idea of not having to freeze all of my homemade soups and broth in the future. Thank you for this video. It was extremely helpful and motivating!

People,,,, don't forget you can pressure cook meats in your canner as well. Those tuffer cuts of meat can be fall apart tender in no time. Your seasonings will be all the way through the meats. You cut down the cooking time considerably!! A pressure canner is not a one trick pony!!! Sarah, I am so glad to see people teaching/passing along this knowledge! I was raised up with with canning/pressure cooking as a staple. Those fish with y bones in there fillet, just pressure can or pressure cook and the bones just crumble up, just like those canned in grocery store. If you like street tacos (who doesn't right), you just pressure cook your meats (goat, beef, or wild game) and you have great fall apart meats for taco Tuesday. Time saver aswell, cook larger cuts for several meals. Sorry for being so long winded, just it's a great tool most homemakers, homesteaders, or those on a tight budget don't think to use. Keep up the GREAT WORK Sarah!!!

I'm one of those people who's had a pressure cooker explode on me. The lid just blew right off the top and into the ceiling! That was one of the older style cookers. If i can make a suggestion.... Really research canning. I had no idea what high acid foods and low acid foods really were. High acid foods you can water bath. Jams and jelly's, it became clear why so many fruit jellys call for lemon juice. I was thinking WHY, I'm not making lemon strawberry. Then it hit! Ohhhh the lemon takes the low acid fruit to HIGH acid. DUHHHH, LOL.

Take your time, Do not take shortcuts. Double check everything... and enjoy the process. ... at the end of long canning days (14-16 hrs on some days) that last canner- once the time was up, heat was off, identified it is cooling and could safely be left... it was bedtime. the canner would be opened in the am and jars removed then.

Thanks. I am 72 years old so do know of cases where the old pressure canners hurt someone by explosion. My mom did pressure canning but never when we were around. I have been scared to use one because of all that. Last spring I found a brand new Presto pressure canner for $15, Still have not used it lol. Now that I have seen your video I feel confident enough to give it a shot.

wow, I am so glad I found you Sarah, you are a blessing......it is 12:30 A.M. and I was going to be up late canning my broth. I opened the box and sit the instruction manual somewhere (but not to be found) - so, I came here just hoping to find instructions for my more simple presto 16 qt. pressure canner. I was getting very upset and my broth is 36 hours old and I need to save it tonight. And, "BINGO" I found you,.....you saved my day.........oops, my night. Now I know what to do without the manual......I am doing quarts and I found exactly what I needed. I really want to thank you tremendously. I canned about 2-3 different times 3 years ago.......Whew!!!! I feel relived. And, first of all you mentioned broth.......wow.

My grandma was neighbor's with the presto cooker family. They all had victory gardens during that time. When their tomatos were harvested Mrs presto brought over her pressure canner. My mother remembers the pressure cooker exploding and tomatos went everywhere. That was the original test kitchen I suppose. Love your channel btw.

I've used the same Presto canner for 41 years and have had to replace the gasket only one time. I have it tested periodically at our county extension office to make sure it still works the way it should. Have canned vegetables, meat, and broth with no problems.

The video hasn't even started yet & I hear my mothers warnings of explosions screaming at me, so I've always been too scared to try it. Thanks for this video! I'm excited to watch it.

I bought my first canner this year and the first couple of times I used it I was nervous. But if you follow your instructions manual and listen to Sarah's advice you will do just fine. Happy canning!

Another winning tutorial Sarah! With all the tutorials on this subject that are out there, do you know that yours is the ONLY one that says anything about reading the manual on the canner?! It is, I think, the most important! Bravo! Love you guys! Keep your videos coming! And yes, you are inspiring-I am planning a canning project for today-chicken to be exact! :)

I really enjoyed your video today. I use to can a lot in my younger years. I miss it. The taste of home grown veggies and meats surpasses any produce in the stores. Using what I canned in the late summer and fall was like a treat for us come winter. Thank you so much for including me in your homestead life.

That was great. I am an urban homestead with a small family and sqaure foot gardening. I really was confused and scared of pressure canning. You have really helped me. I will be trying beef stew in the canner. Thanks again. 🌻
