STOP IGNORING The Slav Defense!!

Episode 11 of the Caro Kann Versus Everything Speedrun features a Slav Defense setup (which has very similar to many of the ideas of the Caro Kann) which I turn into a semi Slav Defence with e6 before the bishop escapes the pawn chain. Time usage is horrible as always but explanations are in depth as always so I hope you enjoy and consider playing the Slav Defense yourself!

Honestly, I think if you shortened the explanations during the actual game and then elaborated on critical positions later on then that'd be good enough. Honestly, it was interesting to see you play while low on time and it's a great example of continually posing threats to your opponent will generally force them to make inaccuracies/blunders. Anyway, great video and enjoy your content. Keep up the great work!

@@ChessCenturion -- Hahaha! 😅 Can neither confirm nor deny that, but that's a great reference that many people cannot recall these days. History Lesson: That Zimmermann has two N's. Most Germans dropped the additional 'n' in WWII to distinguish themselves as non-Jewish. Additionally, Zimmermann (Jewish) means carpenter. While Zimmermann (German) is broken up into two words. 'Zimmer' meaning room and 'Mann' meaning man or worker.

Haha I find the zimmermann telegram absolutely fascinating cuz it just seems utterly ridiculous now but made sense back then considering the recent territorial shifts, did Germans change the n count in ww1 tho or was it mainly German migrants in America?

I would like to mention that for some who might be confused, he is not playing neither Caro Kann nor Slav here although it later transposes into a Semi-Slav like position but not even that. I could as well call this just playing against the London opening as it more starts like that but later white does the c4 thrust so it's not even London. I know what Alex is trying to say here by calling them "Slav" or "Caro" as the positions are similar. I would never call for example d4 c5 opening "Sicilian defense" even that c5 is the first move of Sicilian because it's just different all together. In theory it could transpose into Sicilian Smith-Morra if white plays e4 but by itself d4 c5 would never be Sicilian, not even that similar. I just think throwing the opening names so loosely around is not that great as they have strict positions which define them and often theoretical positions that come from them. Chess opening share lot of patterns in common but this just can get confusing and opening names would lose their point if everyone talked like so.

The London contemplates c4 as a possibility for White. You don't have to always do the "pawn pyramid" in the London (cf. IM Alex Banzea's videos).

I think the same ideas as a typical slav applied to the position, or at least how I played it, so I feel like I can rightly call it a slav

i too play ck & slav but lately considering either the budapest or the albin cg what do you think?? i think the former is very interesting specially that as a d4 player myself i never encounter it and rarely the albin..and i must admit even when albin happens im surprised how my opponents are never prepared..like a one move trick and i win 85% of these games

I played the Budapest for a bit with limited success tbh, too easy for white to play imo. Albin cg may be worth a shot tho
