So what do i go after ? I got qualys guard certified and Nist RMF what else do i need or where do i look

These certs can have some merit obviously if you are looking at a entry level job for Cybersecurity or IT in general. For government which is where most people look to get their start, DoD 8570 outlines the certs you would need to either have or in some case be able to obtain within a certain time frame to keep your position. A+ and Net+ are foundational certs that will give you the basics of computing and networking. Sec+ covers a little of both pluse a lot of other areas of Cyber Security etc. There is a lot more that's involved that I don't want to type out but first decide what area of Cyber you want to be in then look at the requirements finally look at the cert process and even more find a way to gain experience even before your cert is complete. It's totally possible I have done and have had co-workers who have done the same.

Glad I came across this. I just got the Sec+ and have started studying the CCNA. I was told I needed that basic foundation in order to get into Cybersecurity. What are your thoughts on the CCNA & that advice?

good info from Boyd...some of this is just common sense logic and really is nothing new in ANY venture...its all about what you bring to the table. how in the world does an entry level participant think they can come into the field and make demands (in ANY venue) for top tier level compensation is beyond me. we all need to learn you have to start from the bottom to get upwards to the top. this is basic Life and Economics 101 stuff.

True security plus is entry level, however the skill you learned from this certification definitely will help you in your future IT career..If you want to be good in cybersecurity you must have that technical foundation, if not you will have a job but you won’t understand what you’re doing and you won’t be able to add any value to your team….

I appreciate the honesty from the brother and Ms. Beez, but in my opinion, this industry is becoming saturated, and layoffs may be on the horizon as companies turn to AI to streamline processes. Personally, I'm pursuing a stable remote job to support myself and my wife while living overseas. I'm fortunate that our children from previous relationships are grown and independent, so it's just the two of us. She's as hardworking as I am, but I wouldn't recommend this career path for someone who needs to support a family on an entry-level salary.
