The 123 swing is so helpful. Clears the mind, slows the backswing, creates rhythm and times the impact. 1, 2 back and smack the ball on 3. A fun way to play.

Michelle this is a really good topic. I have been overwhelmed with the many things that happened. Swing thoughts I have are thirty or so! 😂. Been trying to hit it consistently, but in doing so, I had analysis paralysis! Your teaching is RIGHT ON ! Thanks so much for your expertise!

Hi Michele~ I tend to overthink which makes me tense which makes me hit a bad shot which makes me angry which makes me overthink which makes me tense which makes me hit a bad shot which makes me angry which makes me overthink... and there I was lost in this rapidly descending spiral and honestly, then getting angry at my anger! So how grateful I was to find videos addressing all of the above on your channel! My aim in golf is to enjoy it and I suspect you've done a lot to help! Thanks

Michele, years ago, I tracked my thoughts on every shot over four rounds using a code I developed so as not to slow me down while playing. I would just check off a code such as "TJ" for trajectory. Or "PV" for the pivot. Or "TG" for the target. Much to my amazement, not only did I have too many swing thoughts but there was no pattern to them. My mind would jump all over the place. Before each round, I would try to use just 1 or 2 swing thoughts. As the round progressed, I found my mind quickly abandoned the original plan. I realized I probably had Golf ADD (attention deficit disorder). Thereafter, I discovered Tour Tempo by John Novosel which helped me a lot. By focusing on the rhythm of the swing, I could not possibly focus on swing thoughts. Michele, your advice on overthinking is very solid. I agree with all of it but find it difficult to apply after so many years of overthinking on the golf course. Thanks. I look forward to more of your video assistance. FYI. I am now 83 years of age and still trying to get my handicap back to a 9.4, a feat I accomplished many years ago by working on my rhythm while playing and following your advice on not overthinking.

“One shot at a time” … That’s the goal; Tough to do. Most of us have a million swing thoughts going through our head (all the KZfaq videos we’ve watched). After the first shot, we’re adjusting and introducing new swing thoughts to fix what went wrong. That’s the challenge. If we could only focus on “one shot at a time”. 🙄🙏🏻 Wish you could caddy for me … just once 😒 If you know the magic bullet to allow us to do that, it would be great. Great video 👍🏻 … keep up the good work.

This is so true. I think the biggest mistake for weekend warriors is not actually warming up 30-60 minutes before a round and thinking we are going to have a bunch of birdies on the card. Then we overthink on the tee as well as talk too much to playing partners. Great lesson.

My observation is that with social golf people don’t start thinking about their next shot until they are standing over the ball because they too busy socializing. This is especially true when playing in carts. They will just sit in their carts until just before it is their time to hit instead of getting out, planning the next shot and swinging the selected club to find balance and visualize ball flight. A pro has a target and shot shape in mind for every shot on every hole before stepping onto the first tee and walking, plenty of time between shots to focus and plan the next one. The more you keep your head in the game between shots the less time it takes to get ready to hit over the ball.

Nice advice Michelle….Like Harvey Penick always said…take dead aim! I think it becomes much easier to avoid unnecessary swing thoughts if you have some sort of a golf swing behind you. It doesn’t have to be perfect ….just simple so it’s repeatable ….I found the minute I had that, I started focusing on a target. Coz I wasn’t worried about the technicalities. …

Hi thanks for this lesson. About invisible ball:I am à beginner and still struggle to eradicate duff and top shot. Even when I manage to have good contact with the ground during practice swing. But when comes the ball... So what seems to help is not looking directly at the ball but to the low point we expect. By the way. Seems that peripheral vision is something very singular in many sport. 100% NOT GOLF. I practice downhill Mountain bike and one clue advise to look way forward and not what is coming under pour front tire. You have of both: You can anticipate your next move and magic of peripheral vision does the rest.
