Stop Pet Hair From Ruining Your Washer

Pet hair. It’s not just a problem for your clothing, it’s also pretty bad for your washing machine! Plenty of pet owners count on their appliance to wash pet hair off their stuff. But according to the experts at Consumer Reports, that might not be the smartest way to handle it. You could be fixing one problem but creating a whole host of others.

thought they were going to tell us about a product you can buy to decompose the pet hair. I suspect that is what is wrong with our broken old machine

Today I vacuumed my pet blankets before I put them in the dryer and before I put them in the washing machine. When they came out of the washer I had to use my hand as a squeegee to collect loose hair from the blankets before putting them back into the dryer. I also had to vacuum out the drum of my washer there was so much hair left behind!

I found out if you have excessive pet fur on your clothing and bedding you should not even consider getting a front load washer. The top load models can be filled fuller so the items are completely submerged and combined with the agitation and rinse cycles really loosens and removes that fur. The front loading washers use far less water and only succeeds in moving the pet hair around on the clothing. The load comes out smelling like a wet dog. Then you have to clean the hair out of the washer and run an empty cycle with white vinegar or other product to remove the smell. Also the front load washers will eventually require a bearing replacement which is incorporated into the rear of the tub that the drum sits in.. requiring the tub rear to be replaced. Almost 200 bucks for the part and another 200 for labor. I was warned not to get a front load but I thought they must have fixed all the design flaws by now because you see commercial front loaders at laundrymats. They have not. Get a top loader.

HOWEVER-- I avoided the front loaders because of poor mildew reviews and bought a top loader water conservation maximum size without an agitator … every load is a.problem in some way. Forget about pet hair--omg, I’m working down my pet aspirations from here on. It’s a nightmare and a headache that I’m about over after 50 years of pet ownership. 💔🐶🙀💔

I rent a room and my housemate is the one that cannot control the dog hair (She has 2 that shed like crazy!!). Think I’ll use the laundromat lol.

Omg!! Same! It doesn’t go in covered in hair but it come out ccovered with tiny little hairs ! Driving me mad!

if washing machine manufacturers would allow proper amounts of water to wash a load of clothes there would not be problems with pet hair. You can't wash a load of laundry with so little water.

Environmental issues are driving the need and necessity of reducing human water consumption, particularly for non drinking use.🌎🇺🇸🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Dryer sheets are really bad for pets! Never use them for pet bedding or blankets

Really bad how? This is bad science. Dryer sheets actually have only a few chemicals that are not toxic as used. The scary chemical names are natural and in normal foods all of nature eats. The only thing of concern is the fragrances. So just buy sheets without those. Also, don't leave then out for your pet to eat.
