It's really funny how we use some of those expressions in Brazil. We have "Have no idea", "Don't ask me", "God only knows", "Good question" and "How Should I know", just translated! How should I know those expressions could be so similar to the ones in Portuguese?

When working at my mum’s work for a summer I actually was handed the task of translating a production manual from Swedish to Greek ( I don’t know the first thing about Greek) So I said to my friends. “My work is all Greek to me, literally”😅

I wish you could explain in each expression, when it is "rude" or too slang, or when it is posh. It happened to me to lean Brazilian portuguese in the streets when I was a teenager, and I learned a very popular or uneducated portuguese. As you understand portuguese , I learned to speak in a very CAFONA way ( ask your wife what it is). And when I grew up, it was very weird to listen a "distinguished doctor", using slang words with my brazilian colleagues. They laughed a lot, and I didn´t realized that I was speaking in an inaprpropiate language with them. Then, would you please...??? Thank´s a lot.

I don’t think it is “better” because educated and other people still use “ I don’t know” in their everyday conversations. In many other languages, there is one or two ways of expressing one thought but in English there are many ways depending on the context including the setting, variation, culture, education, and whatnot. For a native speaker, it is easier to choose or manoeuvre the vocabulary. Bear in mind, words and tones do elicit different emotions as in many other languages. Choose wisely your active vocabulary as it can have an impact either positive or negative on you. :)

Native Australian English speaker here. One that I thought of while listening to this video (that my family and friends use a LOT) is “to not know [someone or something] from a bar of soap.”. For the English learners, this is especially used when talking about what someone or something looks like (it may also have other uses of which I am unaware). For example, if someone asked “do you know what my house looks like?” and I didn’t know, I could say “I wouldn’t know it from a bar of soap”

Aussie English I always think of Australian English as like Québécois French 😂 and no not an English teacher but, as I have started studying French more deeply and encountering expressions (like « je parle anglais comme un vache espagnol » 😂) I have become more interested in the dialects of various languages and the peculiarities of Australian English in particular. Cool videos, keep ‘em up man 🙂

I always liked the Aussie accent, it reminds me in so many ways of "Southern" American Colloquialism. We would say these sentences much the same way. So similar the two are, You could even point out how in the deep southern dialects you might hear an "N" put at the end of a word just like the inserted "R" at the end of Australian words to make it flow betta? (see we shorten the same words-lol) like....."If'n you reckon?" GREAT content mate, keep on keepin' on.

It’s a hard one to explain. It’s kinda like the word know would be spelled knou instead. It’s almost, not quite, but almost like the American pronunciation of the word “boy” but you but an “n” before, so “noy” It’s really difficult to explain. Keep exploring and moving your mouth differently each time, you’ll get there. Practice makes perfect. Late answer sorry hope you’ve already mastered that Aussie accent mate!
