Brilliant tutorial! Thanks for this. Most of the other intros are just showing off how cool the Speed Editor product is when pulling selects, whereas this explains the fundamental behaviors of the Cut Page timeline so that you can actually build out an assembly lighting fast.

I changed my “append to end” shortcut key to P So now in the cut page I just whizz through my clips using the keys I O P which are all next to each other making it even quicker to get to a rough edit 👍🏼🤩

Daaaaaamn, This is aowsome, it really reminds me with the simplicity and the power of CUBASE over PROTOOLS that forced me to switch from PROTOOLS to CUBASE in 2008. Now in 2023 I'm switching from Adobe Premier to Davinci Resolve due to the same reason, so i would thanks the developers for developing this software as well as you man for these tutorials. @@timvommeer9660 I don't use FCP X but hear its similar. I think the cut page is so useful for assembly then into edit page to fine tune, not sure how FCP X deals with that - Resolve gives you 2 editors essentially. Thanks for your thoughts.

@@DarrenMostyn FCPX only has one kind of editing, it's called the magnetic timeline. I think DR was inspired by that. I'm new to DR and so far I just LOVE it! I think it will be my new editor of choice! I'm diggin' the several pages, the fusion workflow is inspiring and the color tools...wow! It's just an overall sweet package! For pure speed though: FCPX is unbeaten^^ It's just so well optimized.

The "Close Up" button is great! However, there seems to be some 'subtlety' if the footage doesn't match the project/timeline. For example, I'm editing 4096x2160 source in a 1280x720 timeline and the zoom in doesn't seem to happen. I think it has to do with the Scaling option you've chosen in the Project Settings (or on the clip), i.e., Fit vs Center no crop. This beta-2 so maybe it's a bug. Certainly not 'magic' at this stage. If you're working on the extended tutorial, something to watch out for.

Hi Edward. It is using the Neural Engine to intelligently place the face at good position. if the face is too close to start with then it wont do a close up. Hope that helps.

I just realized that the cut page very much resembles the magnetic timeline in Final Cut X the Final Cut X magnetic timeline is indeed very fast in basic story telling but for me it's not confturble for fine editing So DaVinci actually uses best of both worlds.

I use both software. in FCPX turn off the magnetic timeline and you can get as detailed as you want. there are also a lot of really helpful shortcuts in FCP. look up some tutorials and you'll see what I mean. you can edit VERY fast if you fully understand the ins and outs of FCP. especially using a trackpad

And typo at 16.40 'Lesson' should be 'Lessen'.

I hope you can fit a quick answer in. After watching miles of tutorials I am struggling to get the basics of cut and drag function on my timeline. How to cut both video and audio in one stroke, and how to create dissolve transitions which dissolve both video and audio in the transition. My question is how is my setup incorrect since video and audio do not cut, ripple and transition as one?

Incredible tutorial. As someone pretty new to Davinci this was a huge help. After coming from Lumafusion and FCPX I was getting annoyed that the edit page didn’t ripple delete/trim and had to constantly adjust. Now I feel more confident using the cut page. You’re a great teacher and I’ll be subbing and watching your other videos.

So good. Your first beginner episode and it's almost perfect. You said I and O are for in and out but missed a 5-second clarification of what they actually do. This is literally what I was searching for, which happens rarely these days, AND all my questions were answered! Gonna check the newer videos for any updates. As for requests, would love to see a "beginner workflow tutorial", which takes you through the actual workflow in Resolve, so you can see exactly how to use the program as designed for editing. This would be an excellent way to help those who want to transition, and are used to doing things a certain way, but now they can see how to use those same tools in Resolve.

Great tutorial and lots of things to try that I wasn't aware of. With my usage of the Cut page so far, I found I was using shift+F12 (append to end) the most so I changed the keyboard shortcut to just F8. Found this easier and quicker and naturally close to my right fingers when using JKL and IO. I'm an amateur hobbyist and chuffed with myself for being able to suggest a tip!

Thank you for the Cut Page Overview. Lots to do there, and I'm basically a cuts only show with some inserts, I'll concentrate on the Cut Page for most of my work.
