Yes, she will look at me when I ask her to, take the treat and then go right ahead pulling again. Now I’m going to watch the video you recommend.

What do you think of using a remote training collar to stop puppy from nipping on kids or my hands ? I live in a rural area and the nearest dog training place is 60 miles away

lease PLEASE do a video on training, specifically leash training, for dogs that are not in the least bit food motivated. I am having so much difficulty training my cavapoo because he's an extremely picky eater that barely takes treats.

Good advice. My 21 week old cocker spaniel is motivated by biting and pulling her leash! It's hard to even get her out of the door, lol. Once out, she loves to pull as hard as a buffalo.... I'm working on it. Thank you for your advice :)

How did you manage?! Our 13 week old cocker spaniel is used to her lead in the house and garden, but once outside she “gallops” on 2 back legs, runs circles round me and determined to drag me down the street 🤣 and completely ignores any treat or reward unless in the house

@@tiramisumochi4787 unfortunately nothing improved for us and it ended up with my cocker pulling my husband right over, whereupon he cut his finger on the gravel really badly. We bought every lead, harness, collar and halti on the market and nothing helped. We took her to a training class with other dogs but all she wanted to do was play with them and that was not allowed so I spent the whole hour trying to keep her focused and holding tight to her lead. It was hopeless!! All the training videos on KZfaq show dogs that have already been trained. None of them were like Jenny! Last .November we allowed Jenny to go and live with a younger member of our extended family. They live in a more rural setting where Jenny has more freedom to run and be her energetic self. She is now living her best life, but we were bereft. I still miss her very much and shed tears when I think about her. Last March, 2023, we bought a smaller breed puppy and we have found him to be easier for us. However he is not so trainable as Jenny when it comes to ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘leave’ etc. I did my research before we got Jenny, at which time all the videos and articles I read said that cocker spaniels were perfect family pets. I say they can be but more often they are not. Ours was a working cocker and they are even more energetic than the show cockers. Good luck with yours. Keep in touch :)

Top oh the Pops to McCann Dog Training team 👍 Very clear instructions to help dog owners. I need help badly with my 11mth JRT shortie. He is losing fur around his neck with his collar and where his harness sits. He also barks at everyone not aggressive while pulling. I don't enjoy taking him outside. He is like this with my family members. When they visit nobody wants to take him out for me. I live alone and looked forward to getting another JRT. My last JRT was 16yrs and I had no bother with him. I was able to let him off his lead and he would stay by my side. But this little 1 does not listen to anyone. All he does on his walks is pull hard and bark at everyone from the start of the walk until the end. I don't know what to do now🤔

My dog is perfect at home. He even understands loose leash when he’s not excited by his surroundings outside. But it’s like on a day when he doesn’t feel like behaving, he intentionally pulls extremely hard and doesn’t care about any food, whether this means a squirrel or just a pee spot on a tree. I’ve tried the treat training shown in the vid, turning and walking away from distraction, doing a full stop anytime he pulls, and well timed leash pops. None seem effective. He’s only about 8 months old at this point. But we have been working really hard on discipline every day. He just doesn’t seem to improve. I’ve never had this much trouble with training before. I don’t know if this is just a puppy thing, or if he is exceptionally stubborn.

I agree with the other commenter, I would also suggest Upstate Canine Academy. A bit more on the reward based compared to the balanced approach. Just remember you can also use tools like thin slipleads, martingale, hermspringger prong (not always needed but good to desensitize to different stuff as much as possible.) The tools are just to give a different sensation to confuse or annoy the dog so you can teach a new "autopilot" while on a walk. It isn't permanent so dont feel like you are mean or anything it is just to give a different feeling so it gets the dog's attention. Try to keep any training with any tool to an hour, keep a collar backup clip attached, and always keep the tools on the dog correctly. Hopefully you and your little fren can go explore the world together without dislocating any shoulders 😆

@@bellw5834 this is actually good advice. I started switching between front clip harness and flat collar and he is very much improved. Strangely I think this may be a maturity thing as just this month is seems like thinks are finally clicking for him. I was always taught “start training at 8weeks and never stop” lately I’ve heard, “don’t expect much until somewhere around 6-9 months” I think my dog is definitely doing better at retaining info at 8months.

Our puppy is 5 months old and is so scared of going out the front door. Since we’ve had her she’s gone to the back yard for potty breaks. Now that she has her shots we’ve tried taking her out front. But she’s so scared of everything and lunges back the door. How can we overcome this fear stage?

I've been watching Mcann videos for a few weeks and I've noticed they use collars instead of harnesses, even on smaller dogs. Is there a reason for this? I've always heard harnesses caused too much pressure on the neck. I'm getting a toy poodle next year and I'm not sure if I should use a collar or a harness.

From what I’ve gathered, the collar has more control of the head, which is more effective for getting your dog’s attention/better for embedding behaviour

How do I teach my dog to go slowly up and down stairs while walking on a leash? I have a 5 month old border collie puppy. We encounter stairs on our walk. I can't stop him from zooming up and zooming down (pulling me with him) the stairs. Any tips?
@cheesybreadsticks9423
@cheesybreadsticks9423 2 жыл бұрын
I'm no professional trainer so this may not work but maybe spend a few minutes out of your walk, just slowly going down the stairs one by one saying praise for staying close, every time they go to zoom, you pull them back to the top and don't go down until they sit and or calm down, (giving them a treat once they do.) It may take a while and a few walks but it just may work for your pup.

My experience only w a bitey strikey Australian Cattle Dog Heeler: On walks, in the house, in the field (after a strike), turned the dog over, put 2 fingers to her neck and kept her there for a minute w my hand on her chest. No pain, no damage. Was she scared to death? Yes. I now have the perfect obedient Cattle Dog Heeler. I don't want her to move and sniff and do all sorts of things. She needs to be focused on my commands. At home, in the acreage, she can chase as many bunnies, birds, squirrws, snakes, mice as she needs.
