Fixing the 2 piece Brembo Rotor Wheel click
At first I was concerned that the front wheels on my Hellcat were clicking at low speeds especially when turning. After a bit of digging I come to find this is a common issue with the 2 piece Brembo rotors and also affects the GTR, Cadillac CTSV and other vehicles using this configuration. Other than annoying it’s not much to be concerned about if your wheels are properly torqued.
The fix is simple, clean the mating surfaces on the wheel and rotor, then properly torque the wheels. Below you will find the Brake hub cleaning kit I used along with the other tools I use in this video. If you use the Amazon Affiliate links to make any purchases, know that I appreciate the support.

Alright, being ‘that guy’ to comment on an old video. First off, thank you for this! I have a totally different car, a Polestar 2 with performance pack. Within, 1k miles the brembo brakes started clicking exactly like this. I followed your directions and it worked! No more clicks. I also put some anti-seize between the wheel like someone in the comments mentioned. Again, thank you!

Same issue on my MX5 with Brembo. I've been searching for two months with no luck! In my case, it was not the disk but actually my wheel hub that had some corrosion, and cleaning both with a metal brush and putting some copper grease worked like a charm. Thanks a lot man!

I had to press the like button for this post. I had the same click noise at low speed turning with my Lexus LC500 which also has similar two piece aluminum hat/steel rotor too. I was looking at swapping them out for a cast steel version, but didn't really want to. This tool and method worked to get rid of the clicks for my car too. Thanks for posting it even though it is a different car, the parts and fix were the same.

Did it work on your trackhawk?
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrPhilira Yes. I didn't do the complete surface prep...just a quick & simple cleaning of both matting surfaces and the clicking went away. However, it did return after a month or so...but not as aggressive. You shouldn't have to clean the surface to surgery room conditions every time you pull a wheel...so I'm going to try using a super thin aluminum wheel spacer (I'll most likely make custom spacers for testing).
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrPhilira UPDATED: I've designed a different fix that is working extremely well, but I need at least a few months on it before I'll considered it fixed! I'll post a video on what I did/found, and drop you a comment, if the fix pans out long term.

@@SteveSmith-wl8yq Amazing! And just a heads up, it worked wonders on my brothers Trackhawk as well! Look forward to hearing the outcome if your new fix. A THIN coat of anti seize compound applied to the wheel mating surface works for this as well, and keeps it from re occurring because it’ll keep it from getting corroded again. Also, keep clear of wheel cleaners that are too strong. The acid they contain really messes with high performance brakes.
@WorkPlayDrive
@WorkPlayDrive 4 жыл бұрын
If it happens again (which from what I heard it will..) I will use the anti seize. I'm not a fan of wheel cleaners I just use mild car wash suds for them, so hopefully I'll be good for a while.

Great info!!! I got the dreaded click at 800 miles on my 2020 scat with the 6 pot brembos. Cleaned it up and click gone. I’m at about 1200 miles and it’s back. This time I’ll apply the anti-seize. BUT.... what you say about the wheel cleaner is spot on!!! My initial noise started at 800. Coincidently just prior to the click, I had washed my wheels with a wheel cleaner (adams). The second time was the same scenario. The click started about 4 days after washing my wheels. I think the adams is too strong and contributes to the expedited corrosion. You can also tell the strength of the adams because the surface of the rotors discolor right after the wash and can’t be rinsed off. Great content!!! Your channel and vids are awesome!!!

Nice cat man, and dig the widebodies. I hate using jacks if I don't have to, and got race ramps for my SRT8. They are awesome because they're made of an ultra lightweight material that is super condensed & strong, and are way better better than the old steel ramps. I've never had the clicking issue with mine, but they have always squeaked when in reverse and hate that. The early SRT8s don't have 6s up front, like they do on later models and are 4 piston. But that's okay with me because I don't use it on a road course and is all about drag racing for me, plus they are heavier and is the last thing that I need is extra weight. {2021 update} So after changing the brake pads, I discovered what the squealing was when I replaced the pads on the brembos recently. The old ones that I took off had some surface rust and could tell that they were not ceramic, so I put some good ones on it and took care of the problem. Whoever owned it before took very good care of it, but didn't use the best products like I do and is my baby

My 2020 Widebody ScatPack is doing this. Dealership here in Sarasota, FL had no idea what it was when I brought it in; they did a search and found some memo or bulletin about it. I have read where so many people are recommending to tighten the hat bolts to 20 lb/ft......instead of just cleaning and re torquing as the bulletin states. After cleaning, mine has come back, but rotating tires and re torque...and it goes away again, only to return at some point. I just ignore it now.

No, I'm on the fence, I was going to use the PowerStop Z26 but I'm I'm afraid of brake fade with them on the hellcat. I've seen some good in depth reviews on them and still on the fence. On the other hand, I just put the Z23 pads on my AWD magnum R/T and feel they have been a HUGE improvement over the stock in both stopping and Brake Dust.

@@WorkPlayDrive I put them on my Hellcat after the dealership wanted $2000 for just the front brakes and rotors..( nothing wrong with them mind you.😡) I bought them and my mechanic put them on and didnt charge me...so it cost me around $70 for the pads..my mechanic told me I still had 50% left on the old ones..they didnt even need to be replaced..so fast forward 15000 miles later..no brake fading still stops on a dime with alot less brake dust.

I just pulled off the front wheels of my Gt350 (had really bad wheel click from both fronts) yesterday. Man, they were filthy. Hub, back of wheel... used some brake cleaner on a rag and dish sponge and cleaned it all up, cleaned my brakes up while i was in there. Clicking stopped but yes, every so often you will have to get in there and clean it up when the dust collects.

@@TheWhatYouNeed Yeah, same here - before I found this video I did exactly what you did, brake cleaner and a couple rags to clean up all the dust. The click went away for a couple weeks then it came back. My thoughts are there is no solution and you just need to periodically clean the wheel hubs.

Mine did this right at around 1500 miles on my new 2020 widebody charger. I was all confused and thought it was just rubbing something. Only the drivers side clicked loud. This was the first and only video I have watched so far. Took it up in the air and took off all the wheels. Being new, everything was spotless in all the areas that you cleaned, rotated the wheels, hit the lugs with my impact and the noise is gone. Could the noise just be due to the lugs needing to be re-torqued, or just loosen the wheel and re seat it and tightened up? Because my wheels were spotless as the car is still very new and I did zero cleaning. So far so good all week long. But dang that click was annoying
