If you eat the same food every day, you’ll get sick of it sooner or later. Same thing can be said about the hobby. It’s referred to as “burn out” and it can happen to anyone at any time. linktr.ee/jkfishkeeping

@@JKFishKeeping I did thank you but what weird weather we had. My veggie garden was having trouble getting going but my peppers are finally ripening now. Went to the "end of season sale" at my favourite plant place. Both indoor and outdoor plants and yeah I went a little overboard🤣but who could resist those prices!! Splurges were a Alocasia Hilo Beauty and a Monstera Swiss cheese (total for both was $22 😱)

Wow this video came just in time (I've been burnt out for a couple months due to lots of change and anxiety ) Thank you for this (yesterday I was finally starting to warm up to the hobby again) and it's a lot easier to know I'm not the only one that goes through this

Hey you! I’m sorry to hear that but glad if it helped. Have you made any changes to your aquarium routine to relieve some pressure?

@@JKFishKeeping I quit my water changes for a while (though I'm doing some large ones today, and it was due to the burnout and stress) I felt horrible and felt like I was neglecting them because I'm the kind of person who hasn't quite learned that my tanks are okay left alone for a while (obviously with limits) However, I wouldn't recommend this to most aquarists. Both my tanks are planted, one of the tanks only needs the water changed once a month or so anyway (learned this through testing my tank water), but I hadn't learned to leave it alone, and I did look out for behavior and sickness. Again, I wouldn't recommend this to a lot of people and I believe it definitely depends on the tank and water situation. I'm going to run some more tests on the tank that needs water changes more frequently to see how it's doing (honestly though the plants are doing so much better without me messing around with water changes so often) Maybe it was the lesson I needed to leave them alone sometimes or maybe I've failed to be a good fishkeeper... I'm not entirely sure. But all my fish got through it okay. And I know I'm not over all my problems or anxiety, but I'm finally ready to jump back into the hobby.

@keepkeepingaquatics definitely sounds like it was a good needed “break”. I’ve definitely felt the guilt of neglecting tanks and still do at times. I need to move out some fish I’m not enjoying anymore and scape some more. Yes definitely some of my planted tanks do well when I just don’t touch them or do as many waterchanges for sure. But it does still ring true here that you gotta take care of yourself first. Glad you’re making it through and hope that road is nearing its end and also glad we’re on a similar timing path as well! Thank you for being here and sharing your journey.

I think I'm in more of a PAUSE mode than burnt out mode maybe? I lost two bettas to dropsy and two to tumors within the span of a couple months. So I have three 10 gallon tanks and one 5 gallon tank sitting empty with just ramshorn snails in them. Thought about downsizing to just a 20 gallon long community tank and my three 5 gallon Marineland Portrait tanks. Or more likely just leave my tanks the way they are as ramshorn snail farms. lol I don't mind doing maintenance on them, I'm just not motivated to break them down.
