I've owned both a VH4 and a VH2. In my opinion, the VH2 is going to be the better amp for most players. In this video, I'll explain why, do a brief walk through of the amp, and play you a few sounds.

Glad you're liking the VH2! I think it's a great amp. It will definitely get you those Diezel tones you have in your head. And while the feature set is more limited than the VH4, I don't know if if view the VH4 as an "upgrade;" they're just two different paths to that signature Diezel sound.

Thanks for posting this is great. A few questions: Are you plugging your studio monitors into the line out of the Ox? What monitors are you using in this video? I’ve been looking for a way to play my amps at home and don’t like the attenuators I’ve tried. Additionally, want a way to record and the ox seems ideal. Do you like the Ox?
@eldoradoguitars64562 жыл бұрын
Signal goes: Guitar > Pedalboard > Amp > OX > Digital Out > UA Apollo > Monitors (then into the room; this was recorded with a Yeti mic) The monitors are Yamaha HS8's. I love the OX and have another video on it. If you're serious about recording or playing at home, the OX is going to be the best fit on the market right now. If you're more of a live player, you might prefer the Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander. If you just want to attenuate your amp with more limited options for recording or live use, the Fryette Power Station is the best attenuator on the market right now.

I do think the channel 2 of the Vh4 is actually pretty special sounding. Often overlooked because everyone goes straight to channel 3. I just though the channel 2 with the bright switch and 2/3 gain did a great JCM800 thing and loved the boosts I threw at it. Agree with all the points around the footswitch and midi features though. I do think that's kind of a headache for someone like me. My BE-100 Deluxe is def my favorite amp I've played so far but there's something cool about Diezels.

Hello! Have you tried channel 1 with more gain pedals by any chance? If so, curious to know if it takes some gain stacking well?
@eldoradoguitars6456 Жыл бұрын
IMO Diezels do not take pedals super well because they don't need to (one exception, below). For the most part, they are truly channel switching amps. The cleans are dedicated, DI-type cleans, and the gain is very compressed and powerful. That said, if you're looking for a Diezel pedal platform, I would check out the Big Max. I just got one and it's awesome.
@michabien5321 Жыл бұрын
@@eldoradoguitars6456 Thank you, I appreciate the reply! That's what I suspected. It does seem to be their lineup's universal feature that you don't need to tweak the amps with third party devices - the products provide you with the sounds you need out of the box. Hence no need for ensuring tweakability via pedals. You're spot on with the Big Max suggestion, I have been eyeing it. Compared to VH2 though, there's not that much content on it on KZfaq, even less that include pedal use. Seeing as you have just gotten one, perhaps there's a chance you'll be reviewing yours? Interested to understand how it sounds on its own and with pedals since I have no way of playing it in person, unfortunately.

Great demo. Could you compare the VH2 to the Be100 Deluxe?
@eldoradoguitars64562 жыл бұрын
Hey Dominik - Sure. Always hard to do these kinds of comparisons because it's like comparing Lamborghini and Ferrari. That said, they're two totally different amps, both awesome in their own right. The Friedman BE-100 Dlx is basically every Marshall tone you could ever want in one box. It's filled out more than most vintage Marshalls (meaning: more bass and low mids than vintage Marshalls) but the BE-100 Dlx is still an upper-mids and treble-focused amp. It's vintage Marshall sounds for the modern age. It also gives you a ton of options: the SAT switch will give you that Jose Cali sound, the C45 switch will turn it into a more JCM 800 sounding amp, and the FAT switch will thicken up single coils and solos. Then of course you've got all the gain structures to handle lower gain tones and response switches to soften or harden the sound of the amp. It's a tweaker's delight if you love produced Marshall tones. It's super flexible and sounds great live or in the studio. Honestly, a top 3 amp for me. The Diezel is very different. Not Marshall-like at all; more akin to a Mesa Boogie or Soldano. It's got that super thick, juicy, saturated sound that comes from tons of preamp gain. The Diezel is all about a raw, chaotic gain structure. It's an amp focused on low mids that really punch you in the chest. I actually don't like it as much through my OX or TAE because you really need to *feel* this amp. Put it through a 4x12 and start moving some air, then you'll get it. It's aggression and chaos amplified. It just mows down the front row with power. It's much more compressed than the BE-100 and has more gain on tap. It lacks some of the cut of the BE-100 but it has more punch. I think it's a great amp for leads and solos, and usually use it for that. It's not quite as flexible as the BE-100 and sounds good either really clean or with a ton of gain. It doesn't do mid-gain sounds as well as the BE. Still a killer amp, just very different from the BE.
@dominikignacik97362 жыл бұрын
@@eldoradoguitars6456 Thanks! I got the Friedman and a JMP 2204 and I think they can get very similar but never tried a Diezel so I guess I have to now after reading your comparison. I got some clips on my channel that compare the Friedman, Marshall and Fryette CL 100 if you’re interested.

I own a VH2 and while it’s an awesome amp, I still want a VH4 as the second channel of the VH2 is not the same as the third channel of the VH4. So as soon as I can afford to upgrade I will be switching to a VH4. The VH2 is still absolutely amazing and I’ve been really happy with it but I want the real thing 😁

@eldoradoguitars64562 жыл бұрын
I love the look of that little micro! However, it's not the same amp at all. The micro is just a solid state power amp with the Diezel VH4 pedal built into it. Definitely cool and affordable but not equivalent to a VH2 or VH4. I haven't played a VHX but Peter and Leo Diezel have stated on the Rig-Talk Forums that the VHX is NOT "all Diezel amps in one box." It's a totally different, new Diezel. I believe you can dial it in to sound a lot like some of the other Diezels but I want to be clear that the manufacturer states that it's its own thing.

Have you seen inside each amp? The Diezels are on a completely different level of quality. That’s not to say you won’t have a long life of trouble free ownership of a peavey but the Diezels are over engineered and over built to minimize failure. Also hand built time and labor in Germany is a lot more expensive than Chinese manufacturing.
